personal preference. Either one will have a different effect. I am a type 1 and I use both. I use splenda in my coffee, and I bake cookies with it. But I use equal to make kool aid. I don't like the pops that use splenda. Splenda is 1 mocule shy of being complete sugar. It goes through a bleach process.

Ive had type 1 diabetes for 25 years and equal has been out the longest, and is still the best for a sweetener. its finer granules allow for easier diffusion. i guess it all depends upon what you like, but i did hear a rumour about sweeteners being a carcinogen and cause of abnormalities in development but these days what doesnt do that? personally equal tastes better as well.
In terms of sugars in these products i hear splenda does contain some weird sugar compound and my blood sugar level was raised higher than when i used equal, so i dont know if it is necessarily free to eat for a diabetic without the necessary insulin, which i dont think would be too much at all.

I am a diabetic also. If I am out somewhere I will use whatever is available. I like to cook with Splenda. I did use it to bake muffins one time, and they didn't turn out to good. Other than that, I like Splenda the best.
