Sounds like a very bad case of the 'flu. However, it could be turning into pneumonia - it is possible for bacteria to cause additional infection over the top of already infected lungs.
The best way to tell is for you to see your family doctor and have some blood tests and a chest x-ray done. They can arrange for antibiotics if you need them.

I agree with the first two answers, yes, it could, see your doctor.
However, the flu can and often does last two weeks, and your symptoms could be either, though usually pneumonia does not cause the deep bone aching, the flu does.
Are you coughing up phlegm? Have you been coughing it up all along, or did it just start? Did it change color recently? All questions the doctor might ask. Sorry the OTC drugs you have been taking have not worked, but no big suprise there, they often don't. Take Tylenol, or Motrin or Aspirin, whichever your GI system will allow, as often as the package directions allow, do not skip a dose, or delay one, this will help the pain, and the elevated temp. . Drinking warm fluids will help break up any congestion, make sure you get at least 8 8oz glasses, barring any medical problems you might already have.. Work on good nutrition, this will give you the strength to fight off the infection/virus. Take a vitamin.
Good luck, call the doctor, hope you feel better, soon.

My little boy had pneumonia 2years ago. He'd had a cold for a week or so and then developed a chesty cough. All the doctors i took him to simply dismissed me as a over anxious parent and told me it was a viral infection that would pass. My little boy didn't start to get better tho, and the doctors still refused to prescribe any antibiotics. This went on for 5 weeks and i was only listened to when my sons temperature got that high, that he had a fit and passed out. He was rushed to hospital and they tested him for all kinds of meningitis. A student doctor then asked me if he'd been unwell in the past 6 weeks, with a cough or cold. After me explaining what had happened, my son was sent for a chest x-ray. The results were shocking because half of his lung was shadowed and the other was part way across. They actually said if he had been left 24 hours longer he would have died.
I know this is irrelevant to you but it's just so i can make a it clear to you how important it is to get your GP to send you for a chest x-ray. This time of year, doctors are reluctant to diagnose anything other than a cold. You know your body tho so push your doctor to test you for other possibilities. And don't be afraid to get a second opinion, or a 3rd, 4th or 5th!!! Doctors can be wrong x

Hi, just a quickie from me, I have had flu for the last 7 days, I visited my GP for the second time in a week today and although diagnosed with a chest infection last week, today she tells me I`m going to have to go onto steriods as my chest has become very tight, due to the infection. My symptons are the same as you, although I haven`t been able to eat that well, not through lack of breath, but lack of appetite. I would recommend a visit just to ayr on the side of caution more than anything. Good Luck

Still got the 'flu' by the sound of it. Pneumonia is a darned sight worse than the symptoms you describe and you'd be flat on your back. Get some menthol crystals, dissolve in hot, not boiling water, put your head over it and inhale. To enhance the effect put a towel over your head to make a tent and trap the vapours.

I had the same thing for almost 4 weeks. I had a sore throat that came and went. I finally felt better when I took some antibiotics. My main struggle was the fatigue. I think the only way to know if it is pneumonia is to get a chest x-ray. Maybe you should see your doctor soon.

You poor thing! Proper flu can wash you out and you can feel dreadful for up to 6 weeks, but i do think you better see the doc as it could be pneumonia. I sincerely hope you get help and treatment and get better soon.

Then it might be pneumonia. But a doctor would have to diagnose you.
Good luck!
