A cough syrup with an antihistamine/dextromethorphan/decongestant combo is the best; you should be able to get this over-the-counter. The antihistimine should help the post-nasal drip; the dextromethorphan will help calm the cough, and the decongestant will help open the nasal passages.

If you have a post nasal drip try this: mix half a cup of water with about quarter teaspoon salt. Stand over the basin, pour it into your hand and sniff it into you nose.

It sounds ew I know, but it gets all the gunk out of your sinuses and disinfects them. Your postnasal drip will stop, of course also the cough. I do it whenever I feel a cold coming, and hardly get sick.

You might be allergic to dairy. Try cutting it out and see what happens.

eyes, nose, mouth & throat are connected. Drink lots of water and try to get rid of the medication for the nasal. lie down on the bed so that it can flow downwards.

Get some vicks vapa rub, rub it around your neck and wrap a towel around your neck while sleeping. this will reduce the irritation and coughing at night. If your nose is blocked, rub some vicks just below your nose. this will relieve it too.

if no vicks, any other medication with the same relieving effect is good too.

Nyquill or the generic version. You need something to dry up your nasal discharge and soothe the throat. Allergies are horrible this year, and you may end up having to go the doc for some stronger stuff.
