It is an Indian dish of rice and lentils.
Khichdi is also the main food item that is served to recovering patients.
In India, the term "Khichdi" is also used broadly to imply a mish-mash or a mixture of sorts.
Khichdi is normally served with another Indian dish called Kadhi, besides Papads, Yoghurt and Pickles.

Khichdi is famous all over India, almost in every Indian home. It is prepared with rice and a dal (pulse) like moong, urad, and arhar, and is best devoured with pickle and papad.
It is a very light and digestible food. When one has had enough of rich (poor for healtth!) foods, then khichdi comes in handy and keeps the stomcah in order. It is also taken by sick people (especailly watery moong ki dal ki khichdi) so they can have food which can be digested easily.

Heard that it is very famous in India
I also heard that it is a food made up of something with rice and dal.
The Indians most officially enjoy it eating at the rainy season with something called papad- a crunchy snack or with pickle. At the end of preparation it something looks like yellowish.

It is an Indian food.
It can be plain or with various vegetables, spicy or plain.
Dal of your choice is soak (I like it soaked over night).
I also soak rice before cocking, and Cook like rice depending on rice Bamati or other kind, instructions on the package.
Water proportion from rice package. Salt to suite, start with less can always add at the table.
Dal to rice proportion to suite. I use 1/8 cup Dal to 1 cup rice, add vegetable at different stages and have to compensate the water to Cook veg, or I microwave veg and mix it 4 minute before total time of cocking time.
