Are anxiety attacks similar to heart attacks? I'm 24, about 165 lbs and i exercise. My blood pressure has been normal, but sometimes my heart starts beating hard and I have a little trouble swallowing. I dont drink or use drugs.

I'm also about 5'10", and 165 lbs should be normal for that height.

Sounds like an anxiety attack to me, anxiety attacks can feel like heart attacks, with a heart attack many people start vomiting and get severe headaches. With an anxiety attack, you will have heart palpitations, dry mouth, dizziness, chest pain and sometimes a pain that shoots down your arm, tingling fingers and shortness of breath. I had anxiety attacks and they tested my heart and it is fine, they just feel so similar sometimes it is hard to tell. Your weight seems fine to me, stay away from the caffeine though, my attacks were caused by over consumption of caffeine.

Many have said, that you feel like you are having a heart attack when you are having an anxiety attack.....This could be a small one. If you were having a bad anxiety attack you would know it for sure. Not only do you have problems swallowing but you will have problems breathing and you panic.I have had them for about 14 years now, if this is what you are having they have medicines to help control them alittle.. call your Doctor

No they are not similar. But if you have alot of stress that can cause anxiety attacks. If it goes on for years, you are a good candidate for it to develop into a heart condition.

I had alot of stress for 25 years, and I ended up having to have an operation. So take care of yourself. Try not to take life to seriously, it can kill you. I know.

Well...the heart attack is a specific physical manifestation, sometimes brought on by mental / psychological factors.

Anxiety attacks are generally attributed to mostly the psychological.

They both usually involve a lot of stress, though.

I think you may have some kind of tachycardia, where your heart beats hard/heavy and even rapidly with fluctuation (it's like your heart rate is motioning your whole body).

Check the links out below for further diagnosis and get yourself checked out by your doctor.
