The thrombus has two places it can eventually lodge, and neither are very good places. It can lodge in the heat and give you a heart attack, or it can go to the brain and give you a stroke. If you have a fear of this, I would certainly see a doctor

are you asking because you dont know or are you asking to see if people know ? my guess is you already know the answer because you seem to know the diffrence between a thrombus and an embolus...it can lodge anywhere actually, but the more common sites are the lungs ( pulmonary embolism ) , heart ( causing myocardial infarction ) brain ( cerebral infarct or stroke to the lay person )... i could tell you how to prevent that from happening, using anti coagulants etc... but i guess you already know that... am i correct ? doctor... : )

P.S. like you, im also a doctor...

The most likely place is your lung - having a pulmonary embolus in a situation like that is not uncommon. If you know that you have a clot in your leg you should be on anticoagulation - see your doctor.

it flows in the vein, since the vein is getting bigger as it travels to the heart. It can lodge anywhere in between, another place in lower leg, or travel up to the lung or cardiac muscle.
