Ok so ive been having this irritating pain and numbness in my legs, feet and hands. I wake up and it feels like my hands and feet are swollen but they arent. They itch like they are swelled up. My feet are the worst because they hurt when i touch them against anything. Kind of a sharp pain like you have when your running a fever and touch something cold. Ive had chest pain which my doctor has determined unofficially to be caused by stress. Both of my grandmothers had diabetes and so does my mom do you think this could be what this is. Im not losing any drastic weight or anything but i do have frequent infections and a very long healing time for any cuts I get. I use to get tested for this once a year but since everytime it came back negative i stopped getting tested 4 yrs ago. I read that insulin dependent diabetes comes at around age 30 and im going to be 27 this year. Its just bugging me to death. Any help or suggestions would be great and thanks in advance for any responses.

If it has been 4 years since your last test, then I would get tested again, just to be on the safe side. I would also start having your blood pressure monitored. This sounds like circulation problems. High blood pressure and diabetes can sometimes run hand and hand. If all your results are normal then ask your Dr. to refer you to a neurologist. There are several autoimmune diseases that can cause numbness and tingling. Make sure you follow up on this soon. Good Luck and I hope it gets better soon one way or the other.

DH,

I'm so sorry you're having a tough time. It sounds like you need to get a second opinion from someone in internal medicine. You might ask for a blood panel and a fasting glucose.

It could be endocrine, circulation, thyroid, or a host of other possibilities or even a combination of several. I would be stressed if a doctor unofficially thought stress was causing my chest to hurt.

Be sure to ask the doctor for what to do to help your body heal and build healthy habits.

(My entire family is diabetic except for me . . . and I'm 48)

Good luck, and don't give up!

I have had diabetes for 6 years now and what you are describing would be enough to worry me to see a doctor and have a CBC (complete blood count) done, as soon as possible. It is nothing to be left to guessing. Find out for sure and that might cut some of your stress. The greatest part of worrying, is not knowing. Find out for sure and you can then deal with it. Good luck.

It is probably just stress, and because it's in your family you will worry more about diabetes. But see a doctor- that's the way to put your mind at rest.

Bloody tampons, cottage cheese like yeast infections, home made douches (continually a nasty suggestion), and my favourite - boils on their naughty bits that consistently leak pus.... .... Women's Health FTW! edit: *appears up @ Trip* Oops...
