Yeah, they say it's easier for women to get hiv from hiv+ men, but does that still apply even if the man used a latex condom on the woman yet the condom didn't slide off or pop? Also, are flavored condoms just as effective as the latex trojan condom?

Male condoms do substantially reduce the risk of a woman catching HIV... it is true but there is still a slight chance of transmission even if the condom doesn't split or slide.

The actual transmission is through seminal fluid (or ejaculate on the whole), so if the ejaculate doesn't enter and get absorbed by the woman, then she won't catch HIV. This is the basis upon which the condom would work.

Transmission from HIV+ male to a female is easier than from HIV+ female to a male because the HIVirus makes its way through the membranes of the vaginal wall during the abrasion associated with intercourse. (Please don't misinterpret this to imply that an HIV+ female CAN"T transmit the virus to a male, because that can and does happen). The use of a latex condom REDUCES the risk, but certainly doesn't ELIMINATE it, (even if the condom isn't ripped, torn, popped, or slips). You are correct that it is latex condoms that you want. Stay away from lambskin condoms, as those have small pores. These pores are too small for sperm to pass through, but bacteria and virus can still easily pass through them. As far as the flavored condoms and other "novelty" condoms go, it's important to read the box and be sure they are quality tested. Most of the flavored, colored, glow-in-the-dark, singing and/or flashy ones are not meant for serious birth control or STD prevention; they are best saved as gag gifts at bachelor and bachelorette parties. Trojan, Lifestyle, and Rams are all products you can trust. If you want to add some "flavor", you are better off to go with one of htese brands and then getting a flavored, WATER-based oil massage oil (there are many brands and flavors available). Be sure it is not oil or pertroleum based, as petroleum (like vaseline or baby oil) degrades latex. Within a few rubs, latex will crumble apart. Hope this helps.
