This just doesn't seem like a normal thing to me.I have had two doctors one a vascular ent and another doctor tell me ..Its benign.. Cause weight loss and no padding. They said heart is sound,no blockages, and blood pressure fine..I also know three nurses that are veterans that say the samething..Could this possibly be true..it just doesn't seem possible that this could be nomal .I hear it a lot. I have had my ears checked and everything.nothing wrong..I hear it coming from the back of my neck ..pounding alot and it seems worse when my ears are stopped up or feeling weird then there are days that I barley hear it..Im sure its coming from somewhere outside my head and when I lie still fairly flat I hear it for awhile at night but subsides most nights..Its pretty constant..hearing it everyday day.I don't think that there has been a day that i havent heard it in six months..If it were something sinister wouldn't there have been something bad happen by now..they all couldnt be wrong? or ?

Update, information I should have posted as well..I am in my 50's been checked for blockages as well as any other disorder.I am in great physical shape for someone my age with perfect weight and blood pressure.I have always been aware of my heart beating.. since childhood and have heard it at times of extreme stress or physical activity ..Thats pretty normal but It was occassionally .Now I hear it more than ever, but lost 40 pounds in over 5 or 6 months.. Went on a diet..as the diet progressed it became more prominent and I have had the sound at times in the last couple of years at times..But subsided. The doctor says because of such a weight loss I have no padding to baffle the sound..Its annoying and seems to make me more aware of my heart almost causing a cardiac neurosis..It just seems unnatural to me but im not a doctor. They say there is many people that expeience this alot and its common..I have been checked for artery blockages and there are none..So this helps with info a little

First heard my heart beat after my mechanical valve was put in, the doctor said it was the valve and not to worry. Have had the valve around 14 years. I hear my valve when trying to sleep or have a headache. I don't hear it everyday. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I say don't worry about it.

Well did they do an echo test on your carotid artery? My mother could suddenly hear her heartbeat and the reason was that it was 95% blocked. From what I understand artery blockage is one of the most common causes of this phenomena. If you've had this all of your life it is probably a case of acute hearing and the particular way you are made! If it is a recent phenomena or has been getting worse lately make sure you discuss artery blockage with your doctor. The test is simple and non-invasive.

I have the same problem, the docters tell me its nothing, But it could be stress related. And blood pressure has alot to do with it. Or IF you work out, try not working out so hard.
