Some 'fluttering' is benign (or not dangerous) and other 'flutterings) could be serious. The only way to get it diagnosed is to go to the doctor. If it continues for more than it takes you to get to an ER-go. Depending on what's going on, they can hook you up to a monitor and try to catch the rythm. Sometimes, it's so fleeting (or quick) you'll need a halter monitor that you wear for 24 hrs and it'll catch the beats. (most of the time) The most important thing, is how do you feel when you have them? If you have any problems breathing, chest pain, feeling faint-you should go to an ER right away. And don't drive yourself! Most irregular heart beats I've seen in the ER are benign- or don't need any intervention. Age really isn't a factor-some of the fastest heart beats I've seen in young adults! Either way, it's causing concern to you-so check it out.

Arrhythmia

An arrhythmia is any type of irregular heartbeat. It may present itself as a skipped beat, a rapid or slow heart rate, or a continuous irregular heartbeat. Each year, millions of people are affected by arrhythmias, most of which can be treated and are not life-threatening. However, many arrhythmias can be very dangerous and contribute to approximately 500,000 deaths in the US each year. Early and appropriate diagnosis and treatment can help decrease the number of deaths from arrhythmias between 15 percent and 25 percent annually.

No it's not "normal" and yes, yes, yes, you absolutely do need to get it checked, to find out exactly what the cause is. You had better listen to what the body says to you, because when one particular part of it is talking, it's trying to send you a message. You will not know what that message is until you get a doctor to interpret it for you. Ignore the message and you may well be ignoring it at your own peril.

These are called "heart palpitations" and it needs to be checked out by a cardiologist. Your heart seems to be racing, and this is an irregular rhythm that needs attention, probably even medication.

The most likely cause is anxiety, but because there could be a cardiogenic cause for palpitations, you would do well to have a checkup so your doc can rule out any health problems.

Best to get it checked. I get it quite often and the doctors tell me I have nothing to worry about, so I don't. You are not alone.
