I stopped smoking when everyone around me still was. My friends, my boss, my roommates, everyone at work, etc. It was insane because every time I turned around someone would be lighting up. I didn't think I'd last a day, but then that day became another day, and then the next day became another day and soon it had been a week, then 2, then a month, then 2, then a year then 2. I quit because I wanted to quit SO BAD. I did also change my lifestyle. I stopped going to pubs, I stopped hanging around with people who smoked, I stopped working in a place where everyone smoked. It was hard, but it was SO WORTH IT.

First you have to make the decision that you really are going to quite. Then set a date to stop. Start exercising a few days or a week in advance to build up your confidence that you can do anything if you really want to. This will also 1) help with repairing your body from the damage from smoking 2) help with keeping the weight off 3) decreases the stress level when you are detoxing. Once you see that you can go without smoking when everyone else is then you have proven to yourself that you are stronger than your addiction. Give yourself a pat on the your back for the good job of just realizing that you have to be on top of your game when there are so many odds against you.

I am a full time college student. One of my professors who is a psychologists quit using a behavior modification program. Simply put you count how many you smoke a day and get an average over a weeks time. Then you make a plan to smoke one or a few less than your average for a few weeks. Reward yourself for meeting this goal by going out to eat or doing something you like that you dont get to do often. After a few weeks decrease the amount again by one of a few and do this until you stop. You will need to try to break triggers such as smoking on the phone or in the car while you are cutting down. If you smoke alot while on the computer, dont smoke while on, make yourself get up and smoke elsewhere or make only one spot in the home where you smoke. Keep a daily record. I am trying this approach now. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Everywhere? I personally don't have too many close friends who smoke. It would probably be beneficial to stay away from your usual peers for a while. Call it a vacation away from your friends. Start hanging around people who don't smoke. It's probably a good way to stop smoking. Try it for a week, it couldn't hurt. Then try it for two more weeks.

Here's something I answered on another quit smoking topic (sorry for recycling):

From my experience, Cold Turkey is the best. Followed by a close second place for friends short on cash looking for a way to save money.

For Cold Turkey you really have to have the WILL and commitment to quit.

Wishy-washy quiting only results in "I'll try again tomorrow..." responses. Look at Mark Twain:

"Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times."

If you're short on cash, stop complaining about car insurance, stop complaing of the price of gas, etc... start complaining about how much cigarettes cost and think of how much money you can save by not smoking. Add up all your expenses in cigarettes for one year, that would scare me enough to quit (of course, I'm really cheap so I never started).

So if you want to quit Cold Turkey... here's what you do. First option: (sorry to quote Nike) "Just Do It!"

That's difficult for most people, but people who can tend to stay smokeless forever (from the smokers I've known).

Second option: Make shorter more realistic goals. First, tell yourself you'll stop smoking TODAY. If you make it, tell yourself you'll stop smoking until the end of the week. If you make it to the end of the week, tell yourself you'll stop smoking until the end of the month... and so on.

Couldn't hurt. Try it.

Comparing the socil recognition of smoking international extensive, Germany is within the core of the extremes. In the US, a smoker regularly asks "Do you brain if I smoke?" and can chorus from doing it if you happen to reply "sure". In Germany, a smoker won't ask. But if you happen to say whatever he's going to both apologise and placed his cigarette out or smoke out of a window to minimise your publicity. In the Middle East, you're going to be provided a cigarette as a signal of politeness. "No thank you, I do not smoke" won't rely, you need to take it besides and get the smoke blown into your face on best of it. Go determine. To reply your query extra immediately: I'm German and I've acquired bronchial asthma. Generally it is extremely convenient for me to avert smoky environments, as plenty of areas are non-smoking besides. It is typical (or no less than used to be earlier than the smoking ban) to peer ashtrays in entrance of workplace constructions, in order that people who smoke might smoke external. Same for golf equipment and different public constructions. The best elaborate areas had been bars and pubs or theatre lobbies or an identical. I suppose the smoking ban took care of that, have not had the possibility to verify but. (The best factor I famous is that workplace staff at the moment are smoking within, when you consider that smoking in public in entrance of the door is now prohibited. ARRRGH!) So total your middle issues shoudn't preclude you from having fun with a commute to Germany. Have amusing!
