If she is new to sushi, I would stick to nigri sushi and rolls. Some of the best rolls for new people are:

California Rolls (carrots, Avocado and cucumber wrapped in rice)
Tuna Rolls (either spicy or not)
Salmon Avocado rolls and Rainbow rolls.

As far as nigri sushi I would stick to Tuna, Yellow Tail, Salmon. I would stay away from Uni (Sea Urchin), Ikura (Salmon Caviar) and Mackerel (very fishy tasting)

Hope that helps!

Does she take raw food? If she does, try the assorted sashimi. If she doesn't, then why go to Sushi bar? Order some udons or some rice sets. It'll be more worthwhile.

Try ordering a few different things. Either you like sushi or you don't. The first bite of something she don't like may scar her for life. So give her choices. Crispy shrimp is a nice first bite.

Try the California roll first. It is usually just crab, avocado and celery. It's mild and tastes great. Then maybe you can move on to another. Tuna is my favorite!

How about sushi?
If your friend is worried about raw seafood, then get rice wapped in what ever.
