this is a simple question, Chinese food, but I have a super l ong response. Soul Food lacks the variety, depth of flavor, and varied preparation of Chinese food.

This is not to say that Soul Food isn't good, but on a culinary basis, there's no comparison. Soul food was born from peasant food and has rather short history. Though Soul Food has a capacity to become a great culinary tradition as with many foods, there has not been advancement in the cusine. More over, the ingredients and flavors of soul food are quite limited as it is a local style of cooking rather than a genre.

Chinese cuisine is often varied and is comprised of generally 8 disciplines of cooking, and with each discipline is established and every changing culinary techniques and flavors. Soul Food is a very localized style of cooking and might be regarded as a even a local branch of Southern Style Cooking which would then be on the grand scheme of American style cuisine...

to make a long point short, this is really not a fair comparison on a culinary basis..

but aside from that, I like soul food, but I'm not gonna cry without it. Chinese food... as long it's not Americanized Chinese food.

I'd take Booger King over Americanized Chinese food.

Soul Food because it's so comforting. But I guess I would have to make a lot of it myself, with all the lard and pork, since I'm Muslim. But that would go for Chinese food too.
