Hello there, i would like to suggest you see a dietician and borrow some books from the library with recipes in them, because Diabetes is a serious illness (my son has it) and if people are just guessing here it could be dangerous, ask your doctor to send you to the dietician love, they will have lots of ideas & recipes......best wishes.

II am sorry to hear you got bad news on your health. t depends on what type of diabetes you have. My dad is a diabetic and he is only allowed to eat certain foods with out sugar in them. The nutrictionist will help schedule an eating pattern for you. Good luck to you.

I wouldn't ask strangers. You should be able to visit with a diabetes educator and or dietitian. Basically there are no food limits just sensible choices and moderation. I highly recommend asking your doctor about classes for newly diagnosed diabetics.

It depends on if you are Type 1, Type 2 or Gestational.
Doctors ideally want Type 1's to eat low carb to help control sugars, but realistically, they can eat what ever they want.
Type 2's (you?) usually need to stick to a very low carb diet. Try to limit thigs like bread, pasta, and potatos. yes, I'm sorry that rules out pizza and spaghetti. :( also try and stay away from alot of refined sugars like in sodas and even fruit juice. The best way to go with drinks is always water. Good luck with your new life!
EDIT: Try to avoid items labled as "sugar free" the stuff they replace the sugar with is actually worse for you. In order to help maintain level blood gloucose protein is a must. There is alot of protein in things like beans and meat. For an afternoon snack, go ahead and have that chocolate chip cookie, but balance it out with a peice or two or three of your favorite lunch meat (roll it up just like a fruit roll up!) Aslo if you have a hypoglycemic episode you can treat it with about 15 grams of any kind of sugar. try picking your favorite candy like, hershey's kisses, or skittles. also follow those up with some more protien to maintain your good level.

you can still eat your favorite foods, just do so in moderation. also... if you are going to eat something high in carbs, make sure to eat a like ammount of protien. and if you suddenly feel woozy, or your eyes are having difficulty focusing, test your blood glucose level. if it's low, either eat a full dose of glucose tablets (the orange ones are the best!!) or have a half a peanutbutter sandwich and an 8 ounce glass of OJ. these will bring you back up to a tolerable level.

Too bad your doctor couldn't refer you to a nutritionist. Look at the web site of American Diabetic Association. They'll have lots of references!
