Dr. Hans Dosch one of the researchers found that MS and Diabetes Type 1 are very similar to each other. In a test tube you can't tell one from the other. Both conditions have been found to increase in offspring of older fathers where there is no prior family history.

This is the very technical abstract of the scientific paper explaining what happened when they injected capsaicin into the sensory pain nerves of the pancreas of diabetic mice. Studies with humans should have finding in a year to a year and a half.

This is true. However, we have cured diabetic mice 1000x over. This does not mean this research will translate into humans.

However, it does shed new light that the nervous system is possibly the initial target in the autoimmune process of Type 1 diabetes.

This *might* be a way to prevent Type 1, and it may allow for islets to regenerate (we now have evidence they can) or allow an environment free of autoimmunity in which to transplant new islets.

Trials will supposedly begin this year. This is not something you can just inject into your neurons and try yourself at home. I also agree it is YEARS away from widespread clinical human application.

There is a post I have already answered on this topic with more info. You can search for it if you like.

RE:
Is it possibly true that capsaicin from hot chili peppers cured diabetes 1 in diabetic mice?

It makes great sense to me. As someone who transcribes many tapes for doctor interviews etc. on various medications and research etc., one thing that strikes me about this is the fact they link diabetes to actually being caused by the NERVOUS system. The neurons in the pancreas malfunction and cause diabetes, and if you know people with diabetes, many of them end up losing toes and feet due to degeneration of the nerves and therefore circulation in their outer extremeties (limbs), so I think this is very exciting news and the doctors at Sick Kids are stunned and excited by the findings and it will be several years before you really see anything come of this with regards to humans.

The fact that it CURED diabetes in mice is astounding! Why are you so surprised that scientists are getting closer and closer to curing many of these diseases. I think it's WONDERFUL...keep donating money so this fantastic research into these horrible diseases can continue.

I think it's amazing that by shutting down the sensory nerves and injecting that other stuff that it cured the mice and caused the pancreas to start producing insulin again. The mice continued to do so 4 months afterwards without any additional treatment. That is really promising and exciting results.

No I really don't think that's possable but I could be wrong maybe it did for some. When I took diabetes 33 years ago we tried everything to get it to leave andfounr none of it worked it's with you for live unfortantly.

Since Diabetes is such a complex disease, that can involve many complicated body system's ,like Vascular,,Renal, and Optical, and Central Nervous System. The treatments and management can also be complex, and the best researcher's in the world have been working on this disease for decades,I'm positive that the "claim" is 100% false. SW RNP

I really doubt that... type 1 diabetes is caused basically from a defective pancreas. In order for it to cure the mice of diabetes, it would have to "fix" the pancreas, and capsaicin wouldn't do it. I don't buy it.
