I have read several pages of info on various types of juicing machines but it's always good to get the opinions of real time people with real experience with products. Can anyone in Yahoo land give real testimonies about juicing products. Not necessarily the off the shelf Wal*mart brands, unless there exists some durable machines. Thanks.

I've used close to a dozen different models of juicer over the years and my opinion is that unless you're planning on opening a juice bar forget the expensive ones! On a price/performance basis they're overkill for standard home use. Like most things in life getting that last 10% improvement in performance is 90% of the cost. I currently use a Waring Pro juicer that cost under $70 and it gets the job done better than the Jack La Lanne (how much of the extra cost is name licensing?). Is it better than a champion? No, but it's not a couple of hundred dollars worse. And it's true that the masticating juicers put their pulp into the juice but lot's of folks don't like thick juice. I'm surprised nobody's brought up Vita-mix yet; I used to own one and IMHO it's another expensive toy that's fine for wasting lots of bucks on.

I don't 'waste' my pulps, I process fruits separately from veggies and herbs and freeze the pulps for later use in breads, soups etc. Fruit pulps make good popsicles.

It can depend what you are juicing. I had a juicer that worked great for fruits, but not veggies. Either the blade came dull or it just didn't work hard enough to chop up crisp vegetables. It handled the soft fruit pretty good though.

Unless you plan to use it a lot, it can be an expensive investment for a good one that will last. You may want to consider simply using a blender.

Masticating juicers are the very best, but are more expensive.
Centrifugal juicers are loud and fast. The speed and friction of the spinning blade creates heat which potentially decreases the beneficial properties of the juice.
Do a lot of research before you buy a juicer if you are serious about using it daily and becoming a health disciple.
I've had the Juiceman and L'Equip centrifugal juicers and they were both fine, but I'm ready to move on to a masticating juicer.

The best one hands down is the Samson twin gear. It will get the most juice per vegetable or fruit you are juicing. It's a bit slow, but it's worth it. Only downside to this one is price tag, but I guess when you add up the amount of wasted un-juiced pulp for other juicers, like Jack La lane's which is horrible about this, you may end up saving money in the long run.

here's a link to were you can buy one: http://www.canningpantry.com/samson-twin-gear-juicer.html

I just did a quick google search so I suggest you check around, you may be able to find it cheaper on another site.

My mother in law bought the Jack Lelane juicer. It's pretty big and takes up a lot of space. I works with a fine grade shredder to process the fruits and veg. It seems to work pretty well, and you can clean it in the dishwasher. I just don't think it extracts as much juice as it could. They have recipes for using the pulp after you juice, and it seems to retain a bit of moisture. It works, it's easy, it's just sort of large.

I have a Green Star Juicer.
The Champion is also good it have a large feeding chamber so you can put larger pieces of fruit and veggie. the green star you have to cut small pieces. both machines are very good.

Good Luck

having bought juicers without asking in advance (as I should have done) there are 3 things to look for. 1) power 2) automatic pulp extraction and 3) wide mouth so you dont have to cut things up real small to fit in.

I havent used it, but I believe that the NEW jack o laine is the best. It is improved over the old one that manytimes you see on sale.

Champion juicers, are by far the best. They totally masticate the fruit or vegetable and you don't have to cut them up in small pieces. I have tried many juicers but Champion is the best.
Very costly, but worth it.
