If it's a viral infection, just stick with treating the symptoms... try antihistamines like Claritin (Loratidine 10mg).

If it's bacterial (you'll have productive cough with colored sputum)... you'll probably want to treat it with antibiotics. Your MD will typically give you a prescription for Biaxin... or if it's a really bad Respiratory Tract Infection, probably five days of Azithromycin (also called a Z-Pack)

Lemon juice with honey! As hot as you can handle it with an aspirin - then go to bed and sweat it out! Also as a way to build your system up against the virus - garlic; ginger; lemon juice; honey. Simmer together and drink. Works like magic! After the first couple of days then you can't beat a home-made chicken soup with barley. All heat inducing. Rest, Rest, Rest.

This is weird...take a really hot shower, put on your fav jammies and then put lots of Vick's Vapor Rub on your FEET. Put on some warm socks and go to bed!
