I love them all - what's NOT to love? But the Baklava (a dessert made of phyllo dough which is light and flaky, honey and nuts) is to die for. YUMMMMMMMY!!

For your son's information - often people order family style and everyone is able to try many different dishes. If your son is lucky the people he is with will do so. Tell him to not be shy about asking what each dish is and to try them all. Greeks cook with a lot of lamb, heavenly spices, chick peas, yogurt, and instead of conventional bread each pita, which is a sort of flat bread.

A gyro sandwhich is safe - it's usually slow roasted lamb and beef slices served on a pita with a cucumber yogurt sauce (which is called tzatziki), onions tomatoes and cucumbers. It's basically like a greek hamburger.

Greek Salads are also wonderful - lettuce, large olives, feta cheese, onions, cucumbers.

Souvlaki is also pretty safe - its just grilled meat (chicken, pork, shrimp) marinated in some spices (nothing too overpowering).

If he's willing to be a little adventurous, he could try Spanakopita or Tyropita - which are spinach or cheese wrapped in filo pastry. Moussaka is probably the most famous greek dish - its like an eggplant casserole, but don't let the name fool you, it can be very good.

Olives are BIG in greek cuisine so an appetizer of olives soaked in olive oil with pita bread may be presented as well. They are wonderful for those of us who like olives!

spanakopita: one of the best Greek dishes! Spinach and feta cheese layered with filo dough. Optional pine nuts. Very yummy!
Also, try baklava, a desert. A mix of yummy things layered, once again, with filo dough. Has huny drizzled on top and inside to keep it together.

I might desire to tutor my lack of understanding here - i don't comprehend what style of food Greeks consume. i've got in no way tried any. I do like chinese language food. i do unlike Indian food (or to be marvelous, it would not like me). I even have basically eaten Indian food two times and the two cases I even have been violently sick after it. too lots of a accident, so I won't consume it back.

Moussaka: similar to lasagna. It is a meat sauce dish, except slices of fried eggplant are layered instead of pasta. On the top is a cheese custard that is baked to golden brown.

Pastitsio - very similar to lasagna or goulash

Anything with feta cheese on it.

I love Spanakopita. It's a heavenly mixture of spinach and feta cheese, in between layers of golden, flaky, pieces of filo dough. It is to die for and is good for an appetizer.
