Lots of drink, lots of music - make some good CDs up in advance, simple foods that don't require plates/forks etc if it's gonna be a big party, get your friends to invite their friends. You could also do some childish party games (e.g. pin the tail on the...!), or make it a themed party. Have fun!

Congratulations on the new home! Me and my husband found hosting a house warming can be very tiring. Be prepared as time will pass quickly! Be sure to have music ready... Cd's, iPod.
We pre-mixed margarita's (big hit!), wine was ready to pour, we kept water and soda's in an ice chest. Keep extra ice on hand.
We placed food in chaffing dishes to keep warm and for easy service (we had people coming and going all day). Easy desserts, we had cheesecake. Be sure to have coffee ready if anyone should need a cup before driving home. You'll be tired the next day... we used disposable products for easy clean up.
Champagne Punch Recipe
1 cup Triple Sec
1 cup brandy
1/2 cup Chambord
2 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
1 quart chilled ginger ale
2 chilled 750-ml. bottles dry champagne
In a bowl combine the Triple Sec, the brandy, the Chambord and the pineapple juice and chill the mixture, covered, for at least 4 hours or overnight. In a large punch bowl combine the Triple Sec mixture, the ginger ale, and the champagne and add ice cubes.
Enjoy your new home!

Try this punch. You'll need a decent sized bowl and make sure everyone gets a cup as they arrive. Slice a couple of apples and about half of a cucumber (don't peel). Pour over a bottle of Pimm's No.1 and a bottle of gin. Add some red vermouth and as much lemonade as you can get into the bowl, at least two litres. You will find that your house warming starts goes with a swing!

Hi Jan - having just thrown a NY eve party, I know how youre feeling! Few pointers, in no particiular order:
1) dimmed lights
2) party food from Iceland or Tesco, stuff that can be warmed through or served cold, otherwise youl spend all night in the kitchen!
3) get in more drinks than youll think youll need as you dont want to run out
4) invite more people than you think you want, as people always ALWAYS drop out at the last second!
5) cool background music like Amy Winehouse, Jamie Cullum, not too overpowering
Above all, enjoy yourself!!! Bex

ATMOSPHERE, ATMOSPHERE, ATMOSPHERE,
Feel a party not a house..
Ie go out and get coloured lightbulbs for the rooms, have a music and chill room, candles or fairy lights for outside.
Rent lights ... ie smoke machine and a scanner (ie long black boz with mirror on end type disco light, a beam one not silly traffic lights and with the smoke the beams show up and people dance as not so bright.
UV stip lights say £5 each rent could be good and maybe sticking black bin liners on the walls and then uv hairspray over
Etc then people feel this is a party and get into it.
Other stuff dep on ages... ie ave age 50 or 18?
if 16-21 party games as in drinking jenga, followed by forfit jenga, maybe strip twister etc. Use imagination.
Remove all breakbles
have emergency puke buckets around the house and ouside loo.
Bribe neighbours with invites ie maybe a night out. Variety of music, and more then one music room.
how about fancy dress?

Hi,
Make sure that you have something for everyone...is you are going to serve alcohol, make sure that you also offer non-alcoholic drinks as well. Also, if children will be present, you may want to have some fun things for them to eat and drink and games for them to play. I like to have food in both the main party area as well as in the kitchen/dining area so people can spread out....depends on the layout of your new house.
A good punch I've had has one large container of 7up mixed with one container of mixed pink lemonade concentrate--dont' forget the ice. Simple and tasty. As far as appetizers go, I usually make a square pizza with a garlic sauce and smoked salmon and cut it up into bite sized pieces, a good variety of dips, including at least one dip that's served hot, ie a baked spinach or artichoke dip, gourmet crackers, sliced baquettes, vegetables, olives, potstickers, deviled eggs, and maybe even a sandwich making station with a variety of fixings(meats, cheeses, relishes, tapanedes. Maybe also roast a ham or something for them to have something substantial to nibble on. Don't forget some background music. Congratulations on the new home!

Well, I'm not sure what kind of mood you are going for or what age you are. If you are younger or just want it to be super fun, you could do a taco bar and margarita punch. If you want it to be elegant and more subdued, I would stick with wine and coffee drinks and a pasta bar. Or for something in between, just do lots of finger foods and also set up a wet bar along with drink recipe cards. Fun! Don't forget to upload a variety of music onto your iPod and then hook it up to your stereo.
Congrats on the new place!

i wouldnt bother making things to cook. Go iceland and get a load of buffet things for a party. As for fun, have some music, have a few drinks and things will get mentioned to start a good chat. Why not buy a drinking gameboard from argos or woolies. games are good for fun
