Since November, when I first found out that I am diabetic, I have kept my sugar at 5-6 mmol. I have had a couple ups and downs but mostly I've kept it under control with diet and very little medication. Well for the last 2 weeks it keeps dropping to below 4. I eat and like 2 hours later it's at 3.9 mmol and I have to eat agian. I'm eating like a pig and losing weight, I'm always tired. Whats going on? Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know why this is happening all of a sudden. I have kept to my diet, but this is bizarre. I don't see my doctor for two weeks so I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this.

I'm not taking meds. I've been keeping my sugar under control with diet. And now it's dropping all the time.

Here is a thought, maybe it will help you, I don't know the mmol measurements, mine are in mg/dl. But some people have what is called hypoglycemia, which is a consistent drop in blood sugar levels. I have known people that this happened to and they said they had diabetes too, but they did not ever suffer from high blood sugars, only low. I don't know what causes it or why it happens, but my only thought is to tell your doctor and when you do eat, eat high starch foods and see what happens. Keep a diary of glucose levels and record what happens to each food, excersize, etc. There are other disease processes that can cause this to happen, like if you have something else wrong with you besides what they think it is. I have had this happen to me when I was taking too much insulin or not eating enough, and one other time a medicine I was taking for something else caused my food not to digest correctly, so I was in constant insulin reactions like what your mentioning. If your taking any other meds, look up the side effects and be sure they don't affect blood glucose levels. Did a search and found a page that talks about what you mentioned too, think you should read it.

Hope this helps.

I had the same trouble, my blood sugar was 5.8 and it started hitting really lows at anytime, grab a reg.coke or Dr. pepper they are a fast fix for sugar drops, then let your doctor know, my doctor lowered my diabetic med's from 5 gm to 2.5, I just cut my pill in half. It work right away

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is not to be messed with
.However,if the lowest number you are getting is 3.9 i would not be too concerned. You may be eating a lot, but differently than before.Have you increased protein intake and cut back on bad carbs, such as bread&pastries?Has your exercise increased? These things could account for the changes you write about.Run it past ypur doc and see what he/she thinks.

It could have something to do with your metabolism. You have sped it up by eating right and exercising. I bet you are sleeping really good too - real deep sleeps? SOunds like your body is working on all cylinders - nothing to worry about.

I've had it happen to me before. Your dr. might need to lower your med dosage and you need to see him/her asap instead of waiting the 2 weeks.
