There is absolutely nothing cruel about milking and using dairy products, this is what we call a symbiotic relatiionship. It would be cruel not to milk the cow, for cows are in pain everymorning because their udders are full of milk, they love to be milked.
There are only 2 real reasons to not consume milk
1. You are Hindu
2. You want to eliminate all animal/human relationship, only PETA is as ******* extreme to do that, it is completely unnatural to eliminate that relationship and would never happen in reality

And another thing, I've seen alot of weak tiny vegans, I'm much bigger than any vegan I've seen yet, my bones are bigger and stronger. Milk is a vital source of calcium, it is very healthy.

Calcium is needed for bone repair, when broken calcium deposits fill in, and are a major factor in reactive tissue, bones cannot become stronger than the bones already there. If you punch a wall, the bones supporting the knuckles are strengthened by calcium deposits, which is the one and only reason how martial artists can smash bricks and wood with their fists.

PETA tried to play on teenager's emotions by making the claim that milk gives you zits "Got Zits?" remember that? And since you guys aren't eating meat either, your source of complete proteins is completely gone, you can't get them from any other place, not even peanuts, they only give you incomplete proteins. Milk also being a good source of Vitamin A.

You guys think I didn't look into this? I've been studying nutrition. I've been in a strength and conditioning class for 3 years and the coach teaches nutrition. Don't think that's why I'm bigger and stronger than vegans. Before the class I weighed 135. Even though I've gained alot of weight in just bone and muscles.

Talk about arrogance, "I don't drink milk because it's nasty"- I find people like that to be indeed nasty, their views of vain sensitivity to animals, and your Godlessness (which I have just stated in the last detail added)

And for those that think it's fattening, for one, you need fat- without it you would be in horrible shape, for two, start running some laps if you are that worried about your weight- pasta is far more fattening than milk due to high amounts of carbohydrates, but it's really healthy for your body.

Don't stand for PETA, they are an extremist group, they want to eliminate all human and animal companionship, they want to take your pet cat from you, they want to take your family pooch from you. No one should ever be on the side of PETA, they kill animals (haven't you heard?) they've so many dogs and cats that they've taken in. Why? Because they were making money, many people were donating to PETA and they had alot of feral dogs and cats, they euthanized ALOT of them, they threw their bodies to the side of the road, they've dumped them in trash bins. They've been charged with animal cruelty and illegal disposal of bodies.
They've told many young students that they'd fight for them in court and bail them out if they did something violent or illegal in the name of animal rights, they've promoted rioting and violence. How can anyone, after knowing this, be for PETA and simultaneously be for peace with animals?

Cows wouldn't be so painfully engorged if:
1) they weren't fed hormones that made them produce huge volumes of milk
2) their milk was left for THEIR OWN BABIES
3) human beings weren't so damned GREEDY

If you're doing ANYTHING to an animal which requires them to ingest antibiotics so that they can get better after you've manhandled them, then you're in the COMPLETE WRONG for having anything to do with that animal, right? Are you gonna rub a dog's paws raw, then feed it antibiotics, then rub the paws raw again? Of course not, only an idiot can't see that's cruel. So how is a milking machine any better, any more humane? It's not, it's cruel.

Oh, and why are we drinking it in the first place? Where are the baby cows? They've been removed from their mothers, that's what's happened to them. The females are raised to be dairy cows, and the males live in cramped pens so that their legs atrophy, and then they become veal. Boy, talk about 1) human greed, and 2) human arrogance, playing God like that, manipulating animals for our own pocketbooks and bellies.

Would YOU like to have been separated from your mother??? Would your mother have liked for you to be removed from her, without her consent??? Of course not. Why, then, would human beings do that to other creatures?? It's simple: GREED.

How is this not cruel??????????????????

I am vegan but I have never said drinking milk is cruel!! I am allergic to milk (Lactose and the proteins) this testing was done in a hospital. Even if I could drink it I wouldn't as the thought of a drinking a bi-product of an animal doesn't appeal to me. Humans are the only animal that after weaning, drinks milk from another species! WHY do people think that because you are vegan you must have extreme views? I am tolerant of other peoples views even if I don't agree, but if I say I am vegan , people jump to the conclusion that I am radical in all my thoughts. Why dump us all in the same pile? As for bones, I have been tested and have strong bone density and my blood tests indicate all my levels are more than average, and better than "normal" person.

1. It's not natural for a weaned human being to drink the milk of another animal..and not needed.
2. Most dairy farms keep the cows in small places and pump them with hormones and antibiotics...Yummy? I don't think so.
3. Calcium can be found in many other things (dark greens)4.Milk is all sugar and loaded with fat.

Your argument shows that you have don't no research on your own behalf.

Drinking milk isn't cruel. PETA has got a bunch of people brainwashed that animals have more rights than anything else on this planet, and should be left alone. Man wasn't put on this planet to serve animals, animals were put on this planet to serve man. Get over it, and go on with your measly little lives. That last sentence isn't aimed towards the asker of the question, it is aimed at all of you animal rights nuts. Most of you have never been around agriculture, so you get all of your info from PETA, and their info is a bunch of bull. After reading some of the answers, I realize that you are all full of sh*t.

I do drink milk but only because my parents won't let me not till I leave home. But it is extremely cruel.
1 many cows are drugged harmfully to produce unnatural amounts of milk
2 millions of bulls are shot just minutes after birth in front of their mothers because they're useless, only a few are spared.
3 the calves are taken away from their mothers and fed processed liquids close to milk as not to waste its mothers on them.
4 the conditions they are kept in are shocking
5 creating so much milk often causes their udders to swell hugely and the cow is unable to support herself and will die a very slow and pain full death.
These are only 5 reasons why it's cruel but there are plenty more, trust me. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Drinking milk and consuming dairy products is considered cruel because the cows have to constantly impregnated and give birth in order to keep them lactating consistently. The calves are seperated from their mothers and slaughtered for veal or raised on feed.

Also, the constant milking is hard on a cow's teats. They can become irritated, inflamed and infected. There is a risk that the milk will be contaminated and the use of antibiotics used may enter the milk.

There are environmental concerns as well. Milk is very costly to produce in terms of water, feed, labor and its impact on the environment. Milk prices in the US are kept low through government subsidies so we don't realize it.

Milk production is extremely cruel, as is all factory farming. Further, milch cows are pumped full of hormones to promote the overproduction of milk, production at levels that far, far exceed the needs of a calf.

As well, dairy products are actually the WORST way to consume calcium, as excreting the remains of dairy and all other animal products causes your kidneys to have to pull calcium from your bones.

Hindu's do eat dairy products, they don't kill cattle to eat the flesh or to use the hides.

Next time, please get your facts straight BEFORE you ask a question. You won't seem nearly so foolish that way.

"vegan and proud" pretty much said all there is to be said about drinking milk from a cow.

and don't you dare inslult peta or any other activist group. just because they stand up for somthing and have the gumption to get up and do somthing doesn't mean you have to insult them. "if you don't stand up for somthing, you'll fall for anything."

Who would have thought that a simple thing like milk would get so many people worked up?
