Unlike previous answerers, I chose to find out for myself and not rely on doctors and nutritionists with all their antiquated information. I managed an HbA1C of 5.8 by NOT listening to them and following the advice of a Patrick Quillin in his book "The Diabetes Improvement Program". More on my webpage:

Vitamin D is but a small part of a much larger regimen that includes cinnamon, ginseng, alpha-lipoic acid, bitter melon, gymnema sylvestre, and others along with a good diet, exercise, and weight management routine. It's a complete program, not just one little thing.

Not with vitamin D, but there is another supplement called "Chromium Picolinate" which has been shown helpful at lowering blood glucose levels.
Another good supplement for stabilizing both blood sugar AND energy levels is a supplement called "Spirulina".

I take Calcium with Vit. D, and also use chromium picolinate, cinnamon, and apple cider vinegar tablets. But diet controll and the prescribed medications from my doctor make the most impact on my blood sugars. There are many influences on blood sugar metabolism in diabetics. A good nutritionist, and your doctor are the best resources to follow.
