For my mother-in-law, who I have to say is very contemporary and fun, we focused less on her actual age, but the era. Sine she was 60, we had a 60's theme party. If yours would enjoy this, it really was a blast.
We had our kids make her a paint your own pottery bank in a Volkswagon beetle and put 60 or bust on the bumper, then filled it wiith pennies. We had all tye dye tableware and the older kids made her a tye dye shirt. We played all 60s music and as many people as would do it dressed the part. It was a blast to see all these baby boomers dressed like hippies. We also had trivia questions from the 60s and 70s and gave away prizes.
You can make this a refined event - our family is quite refined, but we did have a great time with this!
We also planned about 2 months in advance for her to receive 60 cards in the mail within a one week period. We divided this up into 6 people, responsible for mailing out 10 cards each.
Hope it goes off without a hitch, whatever you decide!

I just spoke with my friend this evening and she is turning 60 in two days. She is not happy. I know all that gibberish about "age being just a number" but darn 60 is sounding pretty old. I get to experience it in 2008, oh yeah. The last time I was depressed about a birthday was when I turned 25 (what could I have been thinking?).

I would just make sure she's not sensitive about her age. If she is, just don't make a reference to her age. If she's not great. Go ahead, stick some "oldies" on the CD, put 60 candles on her cake and notify the local fire department to stand by ............

Just came from a 60th birthday party and they did a cute thing. They had pictures of the BD girl from toddler age to recent in frames on the tables. Then at each plate they had a Hersey candy bar wrapped in a wrapper with a picture of the BD girl. It was really cute and everyone had fun moving from table to table to see all of the famed pictures. You may also ask guests to bring 60 of something as part of the gift to the BD girl. (example: 60 M & M's, 60 colorful stamps, 60 pennies, 60 pretzel sticks., etc.)

Well, 60 years ago would make it the roaring 40's. Why not have a roaring forties party. The women can dress up as flappers with the beaded head bands around their heads, and the fringe dresses, long black cigerette holders, and the men can dress up in their gangster like outfits with the fadora hats and thin mustaches. Many if not all costume places rent out these types of costumes if you can't come up with something yourself. I think that would be pretty special and very unique. Good luck.

Well, if she is going to be 60 this year, she was certainly around for poodle skirts and Elvis. Why not a KING party with music by Elvis, encourage the ladies to wear poodle skirts with sweaters and "pearls." Guys can wear two toned shoes and looser, longer jackets.

How about using the year 1947 as your theme, the year she was born? There is a lot of trivia that would be very interesting and fun to build on.

Trust me, she will appreciate it. I was born in 1942 and we are a fun loving bunch.

Take her to a superb dinner or artwork out her primary subject to purchase and supply her a latest card for that keep. If she likes plant life you will possibly the two deliver her some or social amassing with distinctive persons on your loved ones and plant her a delightful flower backyard. that's what we did for my destiny MIL on mom's Day she enjoyed all of it of us pitched in funds for the mulch and plant life and so on, then on her birthday my BIL offered her photograph voltaic lights to place interior the backyard (her bday was once like 2 weeks after). only appropriate good fortune.
