I have a large bottle of fish sauce (about the size of a wine bottle) and at the rate that I use it I will probably be able to will it to my children and I'm not that old. What is the average shelf life of fish sauce once it's open and what is the best way to store it?

OK, I'm Thai and I live with fish sauce ;).....and I would say that it's last more than 3days, more than a week, more than a year. I think it's last very long long because I've never seen bad fish sauce in my life.

Anyway, it's best before one-year after open it and you will notice that it's already bad when you saw salt dregs lay on the bottom.

You should store it in dry and cool place. No necessary to keep it in the fridge.

Hope I can help you!!

depends on the sauce comercially made sauce likely has preservatives and would be good for a long time. hommade depends on your ingredients, usually peanut butter, oils and things like soy sauce or fish sauce have extremly long shelf lifes all by themselves, to added together should still be good for an extended period.

It lasts forever. You can leave it on the countertop or in a cabinet, it really doesn't matter actually. Also you can add a little fish sauce instead of salt sometimes.

I read online that it lasts 3 years unopened, but up to a year opened. Also, it doesn't matter if you keep in in the cabinet or fridge. I too have a huge bottle- because I couldn't see buying a little bottle for $3.50 from the "taste of thai" brand and the big bottle was $2 from the asian market. =)

I'm not sure that fish sauce has an expiration date. it is drippings from fish. so i guess it is already spoiled. I've had mine for about a year, still good i guess. still taste like rotten fish

If it's the really salty Thai stuff, it will last forever. You don't even need to put it in the fridge. It is like vinegar in the sense that you can store it the same way.
