Vegetarians can eat anything which does not require the animal to be dead first. This allows milk and eggs and their by-products, and rules out all meats and fish, gelatin, some colourings and flavourings, and anything which requires the use of dead-animal by-products (eg most wines as gelatin is used to "clear" them).

Vegans can eat only non-animal products - nothing from animals, dead or alive. So they will have no meat or fish, no gelatin, nothing containing or using meat by-products, no dairy, no eggs and nothing containing dairy or egg by-products.

Vegetarianism is the practice of not consuming meat, with or without the use of other animal derivatives, such as dairy products or eggs. Some vegetarians choose to also refrain from wearing clothing involving the death of animals, such as leather, silk and fur. Veganism, sometimes called "strict vegetarianism", excludes all animal products from diet and attire, whether or not this involves the actual death of an animal (dairy, eggs, honey, wool and down feathers). Vegetarians are found in countries across the world with varied motivations including religious, financial, ethical, environmental, and health concerns. A person who does not eat meat but does eat fish is not a vegetarian, although many such people call themselves vegetarians, they are in fact better described as pescetarians.

In addition to what's been posted about the dietary difference between being vegetarian and vegan, not only do vegans forsake eating animals, we don't wear them, either. Nor do we patronize companies that test on animals or are otherwise cruel and exploitative of animalkind.

Veganism goes beyond diet; it's a lifestyle choice.

There are quite a few differences between a vegetarian and a vegan.

Vegetarians dont eat any kind of meat, including but not limited to: birds, fish, beef, pork, or seafood. They also dont eat anything flavored with or made with animal parts. Like bullion or broth. Or refried beans made with animal lard. Some vegetarians dont eat eggs, and some dont eat dairy, and others dont eat both. It all really depends on the vegetarian. Vegetarians who eat eggs are called Ovo vegetarians. And vegetarians who eat dairy are called Lacto vegetarians. And last but not least there are Ovo Lacto vegetarians, they eat both eggs and dairy. There are about as many types of vegetarianism as there are vegetarians. Such as microbiotics or fruitarians.

Vegans dont eat any meat, dairy, or eggs as with vegetarians. And they also dont eat anything made with or by animals. Such as sugar, beacuse it is processed with animal bones. Or jello which is made from hooves. Or honey, which is made from bees. Most vegans also dont wear leather, fur, or other animal products. They also dont use products that are tested on or made with animals.

Hope this helps.....
