Porridge oats every morning, followed by half a grapefruit, keep it up all day.

Healthy food:
Fresh fruits & vegetables, low-fat meats & cheese, yogurt, nuts, whole grain cereals, breads and pasta; fish.

Unhealthy food:
Anything fried, sweets like cake, candy, cookies or ice cream; fatty meats, potato chips or french fries, sugary cereal.

Foods that give you great health are vegetables (excluding potatoes and corn, which count as starch) and fruits, and whole grains.

Foods that give you bad health are huge amounts of carbs, high protein and high fat (such as meat), and fried foods. Meat is highly linked to cancer and other diseases along with dairy. Eggs are very high in fat and protein, which is a bad combo.

Do not grill any kind of meat, it will give you carcinagens (sp?) which can cause cancer. Grilling anything that is not meat is okay.

This is a great question! The healthiest foods are berries, strawberries blueberries. They are high in anti oxidants. I like fruits of all kinds. The varieties are endless and all healthy. Veggies are a vital part of a healthy diet. All kinds. I like avocados, sweet potatoes, broccoli and spinach. The more colors you can squeeze in, the better. I would like to say tomatoes (they are considered a fruit) also. Include beans and lentils in your diet, they are high in fiber and low in fat. Also include fish. One of the best is salmon. It has a lot of the omega fatty oils that I find helps my skin a lot. Snack on a few nuts like cashews and walnuts between meals if you get hungry. Opt for whole grain breads and cereals instead of white flour based products. Stay away from sugars, trans fats (really horrible stuff usually found in fast food) and all kinds of sodas whether diet or regular. Drink lots of pure clean water. Stay away from as much red meat as you can. Include fresh free range chicken and turkey. If you can afford it, get the organic produce because they don't include a lot of chemicals in the growing process that could get into your system.Brown rice is very nutritious. Use olive oil when oil is a must. God bless you and stay healthy!

100 percent whole grains, like wheat, oats, barley, etc. These are for prolonged, sustainable energy, folates and Vit. E, which helps nerves and skin. Folate is great for pregnancy.

Any kind of fruit. Banana's give us potassium, which is very good to help regulate the heart, I think. And balance. Blood pressure. Oranges, grapefruits, etc., for Vitamin C which is good for blood vessels and many other things. Apples for Vit. A

All kinds of veggies, of course! Dark greens are really good. Tomato's have licopene, and that is very good. Carrots have Vit A, too.

Meats, for protein. A very large part of the body is made out of protein. It builds muscle, and holds everything together, and holds it all in place! Very important. But a vegetarian would eat foods that substitute for meat.

Milk, cheeses, and nuts. These are great for energy and nerves.

Sounds complicated but basically all it is - breads, and cereals ( whole grains ) veggies, fruits, meats and fish and beans group, dairy, and nuts which are in the fat group which is also needed! Butter, and margarine, but mostly whole vegetable oils.

The whole vegetable oils most people are only just learning about. Like olive oil. They are very good in Omega 3 fatty acids. They are good for the heart. And skin. Much more important than any butter or margarine, cause they are high in transfat, which can really mess up you're blood vessels.

So maybe not much butter and margarine, which can also be high in salt! And just go for cold pressed vegetable oils which you can find in a health food store, or sometimes a grocery. The government used to suggest only 1 to 2 T. a day from the fat group. Now I think they are suggesting 30 percent!

And that is after telling the health food industry that they were wrong! For so many years! It's just the kind of fat that you eat makes all the difference in the world. If you're not even supposed to eat it in it's natural state, like cotton seed oil, which is called gossypol, and is poisonous in it's natural state? then why would anybody want to eat it, esp. in a hydrogenated state when it is thicker than plastic!

No Thanks. I'll pass. For natural vegetable oils. They can also be used for homemade hot oil treatments for hair, that is how good they are.

Some of my info comes from the Federal Food Guide Pyramid, but not all of it, that's for sure. They still have some catching up to do! And they do.

Hey dont copy!

I understand your point, put the fact is "reforms" becomes just another way to say "control". You can't continue to add to the the scope of what the government "controls" - at some point personal responsibility HAS to be a factor. And keep in mind that while healthy food might be more expensive than junk food, it is definitely not prohibitively so. I eat very healthy for $50-$60 / week. 3 McDonalds happy meals per day would cost more than $100 / week. And your throwing the availability and advertising aspect of unhealthy food bears no weight - do you really want to absolve people of ALL responsibility in their decision making? Last keep in mind that while unhealthy food might be more available, the primary problem with the US diet is the excessive consumption of calories - which can easily be readily controlled by any responsible adult. Edit: On second thought, I also wanted to contend with the following statement you made: "Our food industries, like all industries, is concerned only with profit. That means long shelf life, good taste, durability for transport, genetic and chemical alteration and addictive chemicals take priority over nutrition." The food industry IS concerned with profit. However, it is the CONSUMER that is concerned with the items you listed, while the industry is merely providing for those desires. If a company wants to remain profitable, they have to continue to cater to what their customers want. If CUSTOMERS made the free choice to eat healthier, I guarantee that profit-seeking companies would provide healthy foods. Again, it boils down to FREE people making their own decisions. People like you, Nancy Pelosi, or me have zero right to control people for "their own good". Period.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.
