I was recently diagnosed wtih hyperthyroid and before that diabetes , I have lost over 100 lbs. in a year and still have about 30 more to go , will hyperthyroid meds make you gain weight or what should I do about this??

My husband has hyperthyroidism, and he lost a lot of weight before he got diagnosed. He hasn't gained much weight back, and he's been on it for almost 4 years now. Some of your weight lose may be attributed to the increased metabolism rates, which are caused by the hyperthyroid. Once your thyroid is controlled by the medications, it may cause your metabolism to slow down, which may cause an increase in your weight. If you up monitor your weight, and adjust your diet and exercise accordingly, you should be ok. Your doctor should be able to help you with that. Good luck!

well i have the same thing in my family so i know something about it. Hypo is when your thyroid secrets horomones at slow rate, and increasing wieght, decreasing energy and making you feel very slow, Hyper, is the opposite. it makes your metabolizim fast and makes you... hyper lol... that makes sort of like adhd, i duno i know more bout hypo. im assuming if you have hyper, you'll get hypo medication, which will slow you down, but trust me you should take it. it will be very unhealthy for life later on, and it will make youfeel better, but generally it shouldnt make you gain weight because your not become hypo, your just neutralizing it. and good luck =]

If it were me, I would sure take the medication given the ramifications if you let the condition go without them! It would be worse than any weight you gain-let go of the pride of your figure for the sake of your health,woman!
