We are having a "Coming of Age" celebration this summer for my daughter who is turning 13. It will be much like a Bat Mitvah party except a little less formal. We will be having a DJ and I want to have tables set up with all kinds of appetizers. PLEASE keep in mind that they all have to be vegetarian friendly (this includes fish)

one thing that i found that works well and that kids love are what we call roll ups. take flour tortillas and spread cream cheese on them They make so many different flavors of cream cheese so use your imagination. Then you can put veggies. sliced cheese. lettuce. black olives etc on the cream cheese. Roll up. secure with toothpicks and cut into rounds.
we like..
plain cream cheese and green or black olives
plain cream cheese with salsa mixed and jack cheese

also another easy vegatarian dish is Hummus or chick pea dip, It's easy to make or buy, then put pita chips, celery, carrots and other dippables around it. You can even make different bean dip with different beans.. black beans and jalapenos for a spicey dip. white beans with garlic and olive oil.

then get a chocolate fountain, you can rent them, or buy then cheaply, put fresh fruit. pound cake. cookie sticks. marshmallows around and let the kids dip into the chocolate. This will be the busies station and the hit of the party.

You can have a taco station wtih veggie burger crumbles or even meatless and let them fill them with lettuce, cheese. sour cream, tomatoes. olives etc.

also you can make some beautiful cheese and fruit trays for the kids to snack on. Depending on the time of year and where you live, fresh melon balls into a watermelon basket is a functional and delicious centerpiece.

One other thing that might be loads of fun, bake plain sugar cookies and set up a station where the kids can decorate their own cookie or cupcake and let that be the dessert. You can also get a stand to make a cupcake tree to set the up for display and let the kids decorate their own cupcakes., this can match the theme of the party and the main cake if you have one.

Boca brand makes some wonderful soy items that are meatless and meat substitutes so check them out also.
Good Luck and Mazel Tov!.

I've just read about Fried Risotta appetizers - they sound yummy and can be filled with whatever you please. I do see chicken broth in this recipe, and cheese is used.
