I was recently put in the hospital due to sharp long lasting abdomin pains on my left side. They said there is something wrong with my pancreas, my lipase and amlayse levels were very elevated. They thought it was pancreatitis.... but my pancreas wasnt swollen. Could it be a symptom of diabetes? What are some other symptoms of this disease? Please no one tell me "Go to a doctor and dont ask on the internet" Im well aware that i should be asking a doctor, but the thought just crossed my mind right now.

There were no symptoms at all when I was diagnosed. The only way, I know of, to tell if you have diabetes is with a glucose tolerance test and/or a hemoglobin A1C test. I've never heard of such pain in early diabetes.

My mom was just diagnosed with Diabetes and her symptoms were staying very thirsty, losing about 20 pounds in a month, getting cramps in her feet arms & legs, and losing her eye-sight. It was very scary at first but she has now started watching what she is eating trying to stay off the meds or shots they use for diabetes.

I hope you get well and figure out what is causing this. Good Luck!

When I was hospitalized with the same symptoms (and mine WAS pancreatitis), they also checked for one other possibility - gallstones. Gallstones can produce the same symptoms that you have - did they check that?

You're lucky if that's what it is - that's easy to fix, and diabetes does not result.
