Don't panic!
There are TWO types of herpes virus. The first, responsible for cold sores, is quite 'innocent' and usually hangs around in your body until you are stressed out - thus cold sores appear to 'develop on their own'. The second, well.... read on!
" Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is usually associated with infections of the lips, mouth, and face. It is the most common herpes simplex virus and is usually acquired in childhood. HSV-1 often causes lesions inside the mouth such as cold sores (fever blisters) and is transmitted by contact with infected saliva. By adulthood, up to 90% of individuals will have antibodies to HSV-1.
* Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is sexually transmitted. Symptoms include genital ulcers or sores. In addition to oral and genital lesions, the virus can also lead to complications such as meningoencephalitis (infection of the lining of the brain and the brain itself) or cause infection of the eye -- in particular the conjunctiva, and cornea. However, some people have HSV-2 but do not display symptoms. Up to 30% of U.S. adults have antibodies against HSV-2. Cross-infection of type 1 and 2 viruses may occur from oral-genital contact."

Cold sores are a type of Herpes but they aren't the same virus as gential herpes or any other type of herpes. But yes, cold sores are a strain of a herpes virus which is why they are so easily transmitted, and don't ever have oral sex when you have a cold sore because that can cause some problems.

I'm a nurse. Yes they are the same thing. People refer to a cold sore as they do a herpes sore. They don't develop on their own, it's an std. There is also no cure for it, but many people suffer from this. Patients have an outbreak like every 3 months or more a year. Your doctor can prescribe medication for comfort while it passes, make an appointment.

No cold sores and herpes are not the same thing. Cold sores are bacterial and herpes of course are well its a sign of infection in the mouth due to sexual relations. Cold sores do develop on their own by the way.

I got diagnosed with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about five years ago, whilst I was still attending college and had a foolish one-night stand. I realize a lot of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date men again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/AeNWi everything changed.
Not only was I able to eradicate all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system provided the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

well if that nurse on this page is right where the heck did she get a degree? they are not the same, if they were then i guess i must of had sex when i was like 9, cold sores are bacteria in the body and are not initialized by sexual contact. as for herpes yes sir you sure will get them sexually. and that is most likely the only way to get herpes unless you use someones towel or dirty toilet or something.

Technicly, cold sores are a type of herpes, but if you get a cold sore it isn't bad, everyone gets them. If you have cold sores all over and/or in unusual places, it could be sexually transmitted herpes.

Cold sores are actually herpes. They are a different form than the STD kind I believe but are still a herpe. Yes they develop on their own and do go away with lip balm or such.
POJO....as for chicken pox and schingles, if you have had chicken pox, your chances of getting schingles are slim to none. Schingles is a form of chicken pox. So, if you have had either one, your chances of getting the other is pretty rare. I should know, I have had chicken pox, worked in a nursing home for many years and have taken care of people with schingles and have never gotten it.
