Okay, the good news is that your hypothyroidism is irrevelant. It's normal for blood glucose levels to rise sharply after a meal and therefore this isn't the best time to check glucose. Your symptoms of thirst and fatigue can be attributed to hypothyroidism as well as to diabetes so that isn't conclusive. There are other symptoms of diabetes that you haven't mentioned. Try checking your glucose levels BEFORE a meal and use plain water to wipe your finger instead of alcohol, which can sometimes cause a false high. You are wise to speak to your doctor on Monday and I hope she/he will order labs.

Yes, you ARE a diabetic-- it is not normal for a blood sugar to be 214 especially after eating all that protein. I too have hypothyroidism and I am a diabetic x 15 years. The tiredness and thirstiness are signs of diabetes and I would like to suggest to you that you really, really read all the labels of foods in your house to start with- throw out anything that has sugar in it, including cereals. Switch to sugar substitutes. Drink water, not even the sugar free drinks unless it is Crystal light- but beware- the sugar substitutes are not on the market that long and they all have long term side affects like different types of cancers, etc. so I really keep my splenda intake to a minimum daily. You most likely will be put on a diabetic diet--- but you are already are on a calorie diet and of course, glucophage or Avandia for sugar control and start testing your sugars daily. Don't drink wine or beer or any alcoholic beverage--- it's not that hard honestly. Have you ever been lying in bed and all of a sudden get twitches in your legs from your feet up that feel like pinching? That is diabetic neuropathy - and it was that sign that helped me find out that I was a diabetic.
So, until you see your doctor next week, eat only protein and good carbs and eat the carbs with the protein-- that's the way I maintain a healthy sugar level- if I eat a carb on an empty stomach my sugar spikes, if I eat it with protein I'm fine-- and don't forget MILK is the perfect drink- good luck to you--- IM me if you need any help with your diet. Good luck to you and God bless

OK stop testing your glucose after you eat, test it first thing in the AM before you eat and it should be under 110. If it is over that more than one day check with your doctor. Type I diabetes and autoimmune hypothyroidism can be linked as they are both autoimmune diseases, and frequently people can have both, however, they do not "cause" each other. Anyone who eat icecream with carmal sauce and apple crisp and then checks their blood glucose can have one over 200 if checked soon enough after eating.

Here is a basic overview of diabetes from the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/faq/basics.htm
Here is a link about the diabetes diagnosis process - http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/diagnosis/
Try checking your blood sugar before meals - this info will be more helpful to your doctor; blood sugars normally are elevated for 1-2 hours or so after a meal.
Definetly see your primary care physician and discuss the info you described.

You are very wise so continue to take your blood sugars and write them down. Your need for water will become such a driving force in your life. I am diabetic. If your are diabetic you will become drastically overheated, (so to speak), no matter what you may be doing. Not sure about the Thyroid, although mine is very slow, I am on medication for the rest of my life.
I kept telling my doctors that my pillow and sheets would become so wet from sweat I would have to get up and change.

Yeah you def. need to stop checking your BGL right after you eat. It will naturally be high at this point. DM (Diabetes Mellitus) is often times characterized by these factors....
The patient:
Cant eat enough
Cant drink enough
Cant pee enough
Unexplained weight loss
People also sometimes find that there is a trail/collection of ants around the toilet. (this is due to the high glucose content in the urine, and naturally ants are attracted to it.)
There are many other things to factor into this...but these are often times what alerts patients that something is "up."
The best thing to do is to be evaluated by your doctor.

Many people who are hypothyroid, also have insulin resistance. It's a condition where your body makes too much insulin. To test for this get a fasting insulin, along with a fasting glucose. The glucose in Insulin resistance will be above 100, but below diabetiuc standards.

Talk to your doctor because any information you find on diabetes might be interpreted incorrectly (not incorrect information, just you might just interpret it incorrectly).
