Not usually on a standard x-ray. If they're looking for a clot they usually use some kind of contrast dye under a fluoroscope or CT scan. They also use Doppler (sound) to detect blood flow and lack of blood flow (clots/constrictions).

no they are not visible on regular xrays. if they are looking for a blood clot in your legs, they do an ultrasound to detect blood flow. if they are looking for a clot in your chest also know as a pulmonary embolis they have to do a special cat scan to look for that.
