I have allways believed that running will make the heart stronger and therefore make me live longer. Are there studies supporting that? What are other benefits of running besides the obvious ones - loose weight, lower cholestral etc.?

Yup, it makes your heart stronger, and your lungs and legs too. It adds to bone density reducing the chances of osteoperosis. It burns a lot of calories, making weight loss easy and making eating food enjoyable. It produces mood altering enzymes in your body - it literally makes you feel good.

There are dozens of ways that regular exercise benefits you. You circulate more blood making your brain more active and making the whole regenerative processes of your body more effective. The red blood cell count in your blood goes up and this allows you to transport oxygem more efficiently - this alone has many benefits.

Because of the increased blood flow, your body functions better sexually, for both men and women. You also sleep better if you get regular exercise - this too has many positive health benefits.

There's more but I'll just tease you with one more, better fitness gives you more confidence, and more confidence can get you just about anything you want.
