People who say animals are treated bad ither way animals will be treated bad, even if theyre not animals people eat. I love when people say animals get treated badly So keep weaing your leather shoes and jackets. I bet you kill flies and roaches, mice all the time, theyre animals too. Oh and there are alot of animal products in make up and soaps and stuff. I wouldnt say its healthier either, say i ate meat once a week or once a month would that be worse than eating none ever? Only reason i see to be a vegetarian is the taste of meat and saving money and maybe the cooking process. Plants also get sprayed with chemicals and whatnot. Even if you dont eat the meat the cow will live and then die and someone will eat it, people or other animals. We wernt put at the top food chain to eat vegetatables! and people who claim they are vegetarian but eat fish, just stop it please.

LOL natalia ok first of all I NEVER said animals are not treated bad. I said animals are treated bad, even if they are not meant to be eaten. Like dogs and cats. The video means nothing when animals everywhere are being mistreated. NOT just edible animals. I did not assume vegetarians dont wear leather. I said if they feel about killing animals they should feel bad about wearing leather. in your 3rd paragraph i said would it hurt to eat meat once a week or once a month. Would it be such a difference to my health. Animal cruelty and eating meat is completely different. So if i go fishing and decide to eat it, thats animal cruelty? "vegetarians who still eat fish are called pesco-vegetarians. " Look up vegetarian in the dictionary. Im not judging anyone im just asking a question. Human teeth not designed to eat meat has no relevance to the question. It says why are you a vegetarian. learn a little before you jump to ridiculous conclusions about things you obviously know nothing about.

ok i agree with the first part of your 1st paragraph, except for the fact that you need to kill a cow to make leather and you can still eat its meat, and when vegetarians say they dont want animal cruelty they dont think about animal cruelty in their own neighborhood, and think about cows which were used for you shoes, belts, briefcases, jackets, w/e. its ok for the cow to die for leather but not its meat? "what i said about the vegan lifestyle still apllies. your arguement has not challenged mine. " Actually, if you read my first question i said that if your a vegetarian because of the fact you dont like the thought of animal cruelty then you shouldnt be wearing leather shoes or using animal products or your being hypocrytical. Vegetarians who eat fish is an oxymoron and since you dont agree with them either just leave it at that. If jesus thought eating meat was ok then its ok to me. btw if you dont think eating plants are murder are you ok with abortion ?

your first point is stupid. There are more babies being born every single day which most of them will not be vegetarians. So the demand for meat (unless some wierd disease or w/e happen) will never lower until 50% of people are vegetarian. That will not happen for a while if ever. i dont get your 2nd point if i ate everything i did normally but just took out meat it would cost less wouldnt it? i would think so. 3rd point um yeah you probably do kill insects on a daily basis, in the car driving, walking w/e. Fourth point is irrelevant i see your raged or something when spelling comes up. you probably do use animal products maybe not directly, but you probably do. say i rode a horse to deliver mail, fertilizer ,something like that. 6th point prove to me that im going to be less healthier if i eat fish once a year as to none
7th point, good for you. 8th you have nothing agaisnt me all your points are weak. and your last sentence, ran out of space next box

"Oh, and I am strongly against abortion and the death penalty, so don't even try to get me with that. Keep arguing with me, I dare you. "

Do you think eating plants is murder? If your answer is no then you should be ok with abortion. Like plants embryos cannot feel or think its like killing bacteria, which im sure your not against since your body does it every day. Good job on your post you proved nothing against me. (except spelling? LOL) Your whole post just tells me that your a vegan. k thnx bye Ill leave you with this.

"Steven Davis, professor of animal science at Oregon State University, argues that the number of wild animals killed in crop production is greater than those killed in ruminant-pasture production. Whenever a tractor goes through a field to plow, disc, cultivate, apply fertilizer and/or pesticide, and harvest, animals are killed. Davis gives a small sampling of field animals in the U. S. that are threatened by intensive crop production, such as: opossum, rock dove, house sparrow, European starling, black rat, Norway rat, house mouse, Chukar, grey partridge, ring-necked pheasant, wild turkey, cottontail rabbit, gray-tailed vole, and numerous species of amphibians. In one small example, an alfalfa harvest caused a 50% decline in the gray-tailed vole population. According to Davis, if all of the cropland in the U. S. were used to produce crops for a vegan diet, it is estimated that around 1.8 billion animals would be killed annually.

Hope you can sleep well.

I see what your saying in your 1st paragraph but I dont see why I would risk haing all types of defeciencies when i can eat meat, that also tastes good. I also see what your saying in your other paragraphs but say i was to become vegetarian I wouldnt give up wearing leather shoes (I love nike dunks) or other things. Your going to have to kill the cow for leather so why not use the meat too? This is why im saying vegetetarians who are vegetetarians because of animal cruelty are hypocrytical. and like i said if jesus thought it was ok to eat meat its ok with me.

ok, although about abortion lets put it this way.
An embryo is a seed. A seed for a baby to grow. An embryo itself cannot do anything, but if its in a womans womb it can grow. A seed has the potential to turn into a plant but it needs water and sunlight. An embryo at its early stages is basically a seed. Or a seed with water but no sun light. yes i agree about the jesus thing, i guess i was stupid to bring up religion in this. Well i hope i didnt offend you in any way, but ill never become vegetarian unless meat turns nasty. I just dont think that its worth the effort of being vegetarian (esp. vegans)and finding vegetetarian dishes at restaurants and i def. couldnt find any at school except salad, which i eat alot of (with meat).

I agree with most of what you say. Although girls fashion in shoes and boys fashion and shoes are completely different and I would not try to get other shoe material. and jesues thing is just ignorant. I suggest you read this www.allaboutthejourney.org/origin-of-the-universe.htm it is very long but in the end you will know something more.

what the hell are you talking about?
not a single comment of yours is plausible.
firstly you mention that animals aren't treated bad - or whatever we do they'll still be treated bad. have you ever heard of factory farming? why don't you look at this video and tell me that we can't prevent animals from being treated as horribly as they currently are
www.meetyourmeat.com

secondly, you assume that vegetarians/ vegans wear leather shoes and use products which have been tested on animals. you're wrong again. many people have adopted the vegan lifestyle which means not only do they eat vegan, they also live vegan. not all vegans follow the lifestyle and it's a personal choice if they do or not. learn how to differentiate between the vegan diet and the vegan lifestyle.

so you don't think it's healthier. how many studies have proven that a vegetarian diet is healthier for so many reasons including a great reduction of the intake of saturated fat from meat and replaces it with healthy fats from nuts, olive oil and avocados etc. not to mention the chemicals and hormones they pump into the animals which ultimately will end up in your body if you consume the animal. these are to only name a few.

if you don't see a reason to be a vegetarian then thats your lifestyle choice. other people care for the wellbeing of animals and will play their part to try and help them. even if it doesn't make the biggest difference in the world (even though it does make a difference) vegetarians will not eat meat because they don't support the way animals are treated. it's hypocritical to preach about animal cruelty and then go eat a steak. thats why people choose not to eat meat.

vegetarians who still eat fish are called pesco-vegetarians. who are you to judge them? even though i personally don't agree with them it doesn't mean they are doing anything wrong. on the contrary actually, they are still doing what they can.

lastly, as everyone else has mentioned, human teeth were not designed to eat flesh. we have the teeth of herbivores.

learn a little before you jump to ridiculous conclusions about things you obviously know nothing about.

EDIT:
i know animals are being treated bad whether or not they are being slaughtered for our consumption. but by being vegetarian we are showing that we do not support the killing of animals, especially for our food. this part of animal cruelty is something we can control (to a degree) or at least make a difference. other forms of animal cruelty such as dancing bears, or even dogs and cats, as you mentioned, are out of our control. we cannot have any impact because there is no link to us, like there is with our food. so are you saying since we can't prevent ALL animal cruelty then we shouldn't even attempt to fix SOME???
what i said about the vegan lifestyle still apllies. your arguement has not challenged mine.
and to eat meat once a week... go for it. eat whatever you like whenever you like. you just wouldn't be classified as a vegetarian but it doesn't matter. simply reducing the amount of meat you eat will make a difference. ofcourse it's not as good as giving meat up forever, but it's a hell of alot better than continuing to eat meat about 2-3 times everyday, obviously. in regards to your health the same applies. it's better to eat less, even if it's not completely omitted.

"and people who claim they are vegetarian but eat fish, just stop it please." what's wrong with vegetarians who still eat fish? like i said i don't agree but they're doing what they want to do.

"We wernt put at the top food chain to eat vegetatables"
saying that our teeth were designed to eat plants (ie. vegetables) is very relevant to what you said. although i wasn't directly addressing the main question i was commenting on your comment. i would like to think thats ok to do...

EDIT 2:
i'm sorry but you're being very unclear with your question. why are you bringing up abortion and plants and all these random topics. what are you asking exactly???
and eating a plant is not murder. to kill an undeveloped baby IS murder because it evolves into a human. you're literally killing a human being. plants will never develop into anything with nervous systems therefore they will not feel pain. an embryo will eventually become human.

so anyway, can you please clarify your initial question without bringing up anything else so i can actually answer your question. thank you.

EDIT 3:
i agree. yahoo needs a system where people can actually hold conversations. and i'm sorry my response has become such a lecture!

anyway, i agree with what you're saying about the vegetarians who still wear leather, if they really cared about animals they would adopt the vegan diet and the lifestyle. BUT, what you don't understand is that vegetarianism is a step under veganism. most people chose not to live so extreme (because it is a very extreme lifestyle) and just chose to make a small difference which won't have such a dramatic influence on thier lives. it's quite easy to be vegetarian. if vegetarians really cared so strongly about animal cruelty they'd become vegan because of factory farming (the first video i showed you). it's simply a personal choice of how extreme you can live your life. this particular question doesn't have an answer.

and the term pesco-vegetarian in the actual term given to vegetarians who still eat meat. look it up. they are still classified under vegetarians.

since you mentioned jesus i think i need to tell you that it's not ONLY the fact that we are eating animals that makes us become vegans or vegetarians. it is how they are treated. back in the days of the bible, factory farming didn't exist and animals were treated alot better than they are today, and killed in more humanley ways. so there.

about abortion, what i said earlier is how i feel about it. it's never right to kill a human... anyway read what i wrote a little further up.

2007-01-04 18:39:14 · answer #1 · answered by natalia 4 · 2 1

First of all, it's all about demand. Less cows will be raised if less people choose to eat them. I think that's common sense, isn't it?

Second, veganism is not cheaper than meat-eating unless you don't eat a healthy vegan diet and just eat potato chips all day or if you eat an extremely expensive kind of steak for dinner everyday.

Third, I do not wear leather or any other animal product, including silk, which comes from worms, I don't kill flies or other insects, and I am against mouse traps and have been since I knew what they were when I was very young.

Fourth, learn to spell vegetables.

Fifth, I am a vegan so I don't eat any animal products, and I don't buy things tested on animals, and I don't wear or use any make-up, and I don't use shampoo or any other products with animal products.

Sixth, it is definitely healthier considering I haven't been sick once since I've left meat behind. I have the best bloodwork in my family. My anemia is actually gone (I was born anemic and though vegan my iron levels are actually higher). I am no longer overweight.

Seventh, I eat organic vegetables that are not sprayed with chemicals. A lot of times they are locally grown as well on small farms in the area, or we get them from our neighbors.

Eighth, get a life and do some research before you try to ***** us out.

Oh, and I am strongly against abortion and the death penalty, so don't even try to get me with that. Keep arguing with me, I dare you.

Well you've pretty much answered your own question. Some people don't like the idea of eating fellow earth dwellers. Some do it for health reasons. The thought is; we weren't meant to eat meat, there are many 'things' in meat that vegetarians feel are not good for us, and we can get the important stuff from fruit and vegies. A real vegetarian who doesn't like to eat fellow earth dwellers stay away from anything that comes from animal products; as you mentioned -- soaps, oils, clothing etc. There are also folk who won't eat dairy products, eggs, fish, chicken too. Ever heard of Breatharians?? These people believe they can get by, by only drinking water, and eventually hope to eliminate the water, and only breath..... bizzare..
I don't think you'll get any vegetarian to quit their non meat eating habits. They think they are right, and they may well be, I don't know, I love ham too much to give it up...Happy New Year from Australia

I don't eat a lot of meat because I don't like a heavy feeling on my stomach. If we didn't eat meat, do you wonder what the size of the Buffalo herds would be like. There wouldn't be room for us and they would eat all our vegetables to keep them selves alive. Even in this day the deer love avocados and love them. I think that is one of the reasons avocados are so expensive. Bears would eat our berries and the list goes on and on. We wouldn't have lawns. The pigs would root them up.

All the veggies I know are not true veggies. They can't resist meat at times but don't like to admit it.

To each his own.

Wow, you are on a tirade...Are you aware of the carbon cycle (different than the food chain)? Why don't you visit a cattle ranch or a chicken coop and get back to us. Go eat your meat and have a ball, I am sure that the cow's name was Elsie or something....maybe feed the less fortunate people of the world is one altruistic reason...

they're under the mistaken impression that they will live longer and healthier lives if they dont eat meat. most of the vegetarians i know and see look sickly and pale and weak, so i wouldnt recommend it to anyone. i work in a senior's nursing home and ive seen way too many people over the age of 100 who eat meat and eggs every day to believe that vegan eating will help you live longer
