There is one std that causes an abnormal pap smear, and that is HPV, Human Pap. Virus (from the commercials). Men are carriers, and while having sexual intercourse can pass it on to many females. Yes, there are many other std's that can cause abnormal pap smears, but pap smears are to make your safe from cervical cancer. If you have one then either your ok and it's normal, or you have a virus that can cause cancer.

Yes. The Human Papilloma Virus, HPV, which causes genital warts, can also lead to cervical displasia- which will result in an abnormal pap smear. In most labs, when a pap smear is read as abnormal, they perform a secondary test for HPV to determine if that is present and may be the cause. You can also have the test done separately if you have been with a partner who was diagnosed with HPV. After that, the treatment depends on what is actually found, if anything.

Yes. An abnormal PAP smear can also be caused by a bacterial or yeast infection. If you have an abnormal test, you need to have it repeated so they can examine it more specifically, and may also need a cervical biopsy.

Can you be a little more specific. It is known that HPV can cause cervical cancer which present its self first in an abnormal pap smear.

Yes the most common is HPV (human papalomavirus)
It is the most common std and may cause genital warts and lesions and may lead to cervical cancer.
If you test positive for HPV your doc might suggest the cryo freezing.
they pretty much freeze the skin off the outer layer of your cervix, this is a bit painful and very uncomfortable afterward, lots of ooey gooey yucky discharge, but it can save your life.
HPV is usually not detected in men so you never know where or when you got it, men rarely have symptoms, they just spread it, thats why it's so important to use condoms.
