Chicken tikka masala is one of the most popular Indian dishes in the world. Its popularity has proven so great that almost every Indian restaurant worldwide offers it. It has arguably replaced tandoori chicken as the flagship of Indian and South Asian cuisines. In India, though gaining popularity, it is not nearly as popular as it is outside the Indian subcontinent.

Are you kidding ME?? If you have ever been to Britain it's served mainly at INDIAN Restaurants. Tikka Masala doesnt necessarily need to be very spicy and hot. There are different variations of it, some are dry and spicy, some are buttery and creamy etc etc. Its just that in the UK Indian food is becoming very popular and maybe thats why you though it was an English dish.....but yeah Masala means spices in Hindi.

Chiken tikka masala was developed in an indian restaurant in Birmingham in the early 70s!
The story is that when the order of chiken tikka arrived at the customers table it was to dry for the young b/ham lad(chiken tikka was originally a dry cooked dish cooked in a tandoori oven) so it was sent back with a request of some gravy to be put on top! so the chef thought fast and heated a tin of tomatoe soup added some cumin and corrianda leaf and poured it on top!
And that is how the dish was invented!

Tikka Masala is an Indian dish. However almost every curry dish that has migrated to England from India has been anglophiled to some extent that it no longer resembles the original dish of 30 years ago. I have had many conversations with Indian nationals who have told me repeatedly that the Curry dishes we Brits so love are repugnant to most Indians and they are too spicy for them!!
Go figure that one out.

Actually- you both are right. Its an Anglo-Indian dish- one of the first fusion dishes.
It actuakky originated in the 60s for the British who couldn't stomach the spicy indigenous curries and wanted to retain their lower colon and by canny Indians not wanting to waste leftovers.
In India now- it is very popular to the point they now think it always was an Indian dish and it is very spicy. Counter that with the fact it was always a hybrid dish and travelld back to the UK and diluted further and now it's a national British dish.
Both are right- both are wrong- sorry (I'm Englsih too and I lived in India- had this argument many a time).

You're probably used to eating an anglicized version of an Indian dish. Think about it...does Tikka Masala sound English?

This question should be in the 'politics' section . First what is 'tikka' and then 'masala' and you get the answer. there is a possibility that French fries is a british dish and also chichen manchurian and pizza. Chichen tikka masala can be a british dish as the chichen is from England. Please dont be offended when you finally find it is not a english dish and stop eating it. remember only one thing the chichen is fron England and so you will help the British poultry farmers. I have eaten a tikka masala pizza
