If you have been snoring only a few days, it is usually because of sinus congestion from allergies or a cold. Usually the snoring will resolve itself as soon as the sinus congestion is better.

If you have been snoring for a while it is usually caused by one or both of the following reasons:

1. Excess weight: causes excess skin/fat in throat which when relaxed and reclined, as in sleep, this excess tissue in throat blocks the airway causing the snoring sound.

2. Sinus congestion, enlarged tonsils, enlarged adenoids, all of which cause excess tissue in the airway.

Snoring can cause something called sleep apnea. In sleep apnea you actually quit breathing. When this happens it causes a decline in the oxygen level in your blood, which alerts your brain to rouse you, just enough to cause you to breath again. Because your brain wakes you up a number of times during the night (and you almost always never remember waking) you can wake up with a number of symptoms: headache, very dry mouth, groggy, and still sleepy.

If you have any of these symptoms you should seek the help of your doctor. Sleep apnea can be dangerous.

I hope all will be well with you very soon!!!

How to stop snoring books and ebooks are also available which contain practical advice on how to stop snoring from people who have actually been there and done it. You'll also find anti snoring exercise guides and CDs which some people use successfully for help with snoring.

Snoring can be caused by a number of things. Your nose can be clogged when you sleep. So I suggest buying those new nose strips (the name slips my mind) but I'm sure if you go to your local CVS, they'll know what you're talking about. You could also see your doctor--snoring can be caused by oversized tonsils and alnoids (spelling?). But another thing is how your mouth is when you sleep. Go to your local dentist and talk to them about a snoring night guard. It moves your jaw forward when you sleep, so you can get the proper amount of air in without your tongue and jaw interfering. As your dentist about it and they'll set you up.

Hope that helped.

I never knew I had sleep apnea. I never knew that there's a relationship between sleep apnea and heart disease. One heart attack later.... I've got a CPAP machine, I don't snore (anymore) & maybe I'll live longer.

I also have more energy during the day!

there are nose breath strips on the market you can get to help or a spray you can use just before bedtime that will open up the throat to rid of snoring.
