Well, to answer your question, I believe sturgeon caught in the river Thames belong to the Queen, although apparently those caught above London Bridge belong to the Mayor of London.
Cats, dogs and horses are protected by (originally Victorian) laws against harm (and therefore eating). Modern laws protect most 'wild' animals such as bats, birds of prey, otters, badgers etc so again, eating them could lead to prosecution.
Most other protection is against the unlicensed hunting of the creatures. For example, game (hare, rabbit, deer, pheasant etc) is different in that you need a license to hunt and to trade in it but it can be eaten.
Not sure about budgies, providing they are killed humanely, though there's not much meat on them. No doubt why you need four and twenty blackbirds to bake in a pie.

Well, whilst I sympathize with your 'possible' republican leanings and not inconsiderably! I write the following as a guide....[tee hee!] There was a guy up before the courts for 'killing and eating a swan', and when giving evidence in his own defence he offered the following: 'Your Honour, I admit that I did kill the swan, albeit accidently, whilst out hunting. Then left with the body of the swan, I thought that it seemed a shame to let the corpse be the fare of maggots or carrion to other wild animals, indeed it seemed almost disrespectful to Her Majesty. Then with the hunger faced by many in this World in mind, almost sacrilege to allow such good game to go to waste, when myself and my family who were struggling to make ends meet, could make up for the lack of protein in our diet with such a fayre!' The Judge accepted that whilst the defendent had accepted his guilt, he had also in some respect made a uneasy choice in doing so. The Judge accepted the plea and pronounced a lenient sentence, consisting only of a caution. After the sentence had been passed and before the defendent left the dock, the Judge asked him just what Swan had tasted like as he was curious. The former defendent, said..'..well Your Honour, it is a little like eating Golden Eagle or perhaps Peregrin Falcon...!' Nuff Said!

It find it hypocritical, keeping some animals as pets, while happily sending other animals off to be slaughtered. I believe that its morally and ethically wrong.
According to the Hawaiian Humane Society, people can kill dogs ("backyard slaughters") as long as it is for personal consumption, that is, eating the meat with your family. It is not against the law, as long as the dog's death is "quick and painless". BUT why would you post your question on Vegetarian & Vegan Categorie?

is that right , the queen and the royal family are given one swan a year ? they are the only ones to eat them. and is a sturgeon over a certain weight meant to be offered to the queen by law?, if i were to buy a cow and punch that cow in the face everyday of it's life can i get done by the rspca? but if i chopped off it's head as they do at slaughter houses for food , can i get done then? . so do you have to have a licence to kill an animal?

What's your point?
Vegetarians don't eat any animals, so go to the hunting or crime section and ask them there.
Actually if you want to eat meat why not go to the market place and buy it. If it's the urge to kill and 'eat' is just your feeble excuse then go to the shrink, he/she can help people with these sort of problems.
