EXACTLY! I absolutely hate smokers... I mean, I don't give a flying crap if THEY feel the need to suicide because "life's too hard." *rolls eyes* But... they have absolutely no right to kill ME with their little deathsticks.

The smoker's right to smoke only extends as far as it doesn't interfere with others right to breathe clean air as you so rightly point out. That means 3 places, their home, their car and designated places.
Also, smoker's do not have the right to make the world their ashtray. How disgusting is it to see a butt flicked from a passing car, or ground out on the sidewalk. I say, if you smoke in a car, you have to use the ashtrays there. Flick it and ticket. There is a $500 fine for littering in our state, and I wish every time I saw this, I could get the person arrested. If you even think about grinding it out in public, you ought to have a butt scooper, and wear their litter in a mesh bag right under their nose.
Oh, and we all know what experience albanianpimp's has had with monkey's butt, don't we?

Is there ever a huge debate on this one.
My take on this is , nothing can kill you because your maker already has a designated time slot for you, and there is nothing you can do to control it.
we have gotten so out of control with this one, I would rather see a person smoke and drive versus drink and drive.
One is a criminal act and the other is not. There is such a thing as freedom of choice. I am a non smoker, was one at one point in time and I refuse to pass judgement on someone because of the word "right". The majority of smokers have respect for others, it is the few and far between who do not. It is what it is.

Give me a break, Angela! I guess you've never watched someone die of small cell carcinoma. I have - my mother. And she smoked in a closed car when we were growing up. Now I have asthma. I wish they'd talked about the right to breath clean air when I was little...but then, they were still telling people that cigarettes weren't bad for your health.
Fatalism is one thing - you may have a designated time, but what about the quality of your life during that time? I'd rather live healthy than live sick.

OK for those of you who HATE smokers...I'm sure you hate the habit not the person. Why is our society so quick to point fingers? Its the smokers' fault for polluting MY air and giving ME lung cancer. Whatever. You think the air you breathe is clean? Trust me, with all the manufacturing plants, landfills, cars, the list goes on. True, cigarette smoke does pollute the air...but only within a few feet proximity. And you would have to be around 2nd hand smoke 24 hours a day for your entire life for it to even affect your health. Everyone of us contributes to pollution whether we know it or not. Do you think your household garbage just magically disappears? Do you think the emissions of your car just disintegrate? If you're going to judge smokers and say they're killing themselves by choice...you may as well say that about people who eat junk food, people who don't exercise. You don't have to be a smoker, drinker, or druggie to be doing harmful things to yourself.

No guessing about it. You want to smoke, you should do so in the comfort of your own home.
It's a proven fact secondhand smoke is linked to lung cancer and other lung disorders. Smokers who light up around others are selfish pricks. Many of them are already selfish enough because they pollute the streets with butts and the air with their smoke. Since it is now well known of the dangers of smoking to everyone, there is no longer an excuse to light up as it was in years past.

thank you Angela....I could have said that myself....as for you CC don't blame your mother for your asthma.....my grandson, and his son have severe asthma and have never been around any smokers since birth....it was brought on and continues due to allergies
My dad lived to 85 around 2nd hand smoke....his wife died after being a 2 pk a day smoker but she didn't die of lung cancer nor have asthma...btw...my dad died of gall bladder disease...
I work for a doctor and we see Many people with allergies, asthma etc and most don't smoke.....I know it can't be good for you, but also don't blame all illness just on smoking and yes I am a non smoker also....I believe in genetics and mutations of genes plus allergies thrown in with those
