I suffer from sciatica and have found that using a heated back patch with menthol helps a great great deal. There really is no cure for sciatica and the absolute most that can be done is getting cortizone shots.I've done that and it hurts like heck when the numbing medicine wears off and it continues to hurt for 1 week. And in that week you can barely walk and Goddess forbid you even try laying on your back. But the pain meds are good...
I personally get a combinationm of Soma's (muscle relaxer) and hydrocodone (pain killer) and it works out:)
Good Luck,
M.Gard

Two questions need to be answered:
1. Is your mate taking a cholesterol lowering medication - such as Lipitor? These meds can have side effects that include muscle weakness and sciatica.
2. Is your mate diabetic? Diabetics need to count and control their carbohydrate intake carefully. When they take in to many carbohydrates, the sciatic nerve can be effected.
Try cutting down on the number of carbohydrates. It can work miracles and she will feel better all around. Her energy levels will increase dramatically.
God bless.

i feel for her as i suffer too
best thing is gentle exercise and anti-inflammatory painkillers also maybe take cod-liver oil and glucosamine supplements as they help keep the body flexible.
hated trimodal (tramadol?) when i had it, voltarol works better.
good luck to her!

Tramadol is just a painkiller she may need to visit (if she can) a chiropractor or osteopath

take ibuprofen to help reduce inflammation. It's awful though, you just can't get comfortable.
