Smoking pot is about as harmfull to your lungs as unffiltered cigarettes. It has tar and charcoal and phenols and stuff that gets atached to your lungs. When you quit smoking anything, your lungs make a great effort to clean up, resulting in what you have. The reason why this doesn't happen during the time people smoke escapes my knowledge.
So it is a normal condition...for a quiting smoker. Consult a physician though, he'll tell you something more reliable without needing to take an x ray or something.
My personal experience: Eat it..... Better efect without the consecuences to your lungs (which aren't to be overlooked), albeit the longer it takes to act.
The withdrawal problems occur with other drugs that are addictive by nature.....the imbalances in your brain don't happen with pot, at least not to unmanageable degrees....
And what is up with katie? "You can have cancer, aids, downs syndrome, ebola virus, mutations, impotence, saturday night fever, terrorist attac, backstreet boys, hemorroids, serial killerness....!!!" get a grip! hahahahahahaha

I'm wondering how old you are, but nonetheless, if you smoked pot everyday (and who knows how many times per day) for 5 years and you just quit three weeks ago cold turkey then your lungs are probably going through a "hack hack...get out of my lungs" stage. Since your lungs have been irritated by the drugs in the pot then they have to heal and the only way to heal is to get the bad stuff out. I would definitely go to a doctor to have him/her check your lungs out for more indepth knowledge of what is going on with you...it could be a very serious problem...as we all know that cigarettes CAN cause cancer of the lungs. Good luck!

The largest study of the health effects of marijuana was done by Kaiser Permanente. They found no significant difference between the health records of those who smoked pot versus those who didn't.

The latest research on marijuana and lung cancer shows that marijuana smokers actually have lower rates of lung cancer than average. Search for research done by Dr. Donald Tashkin and you will find it.

Also, it is unlikely that effects like this would show up three weeks after you quit, if they were really due to marijuana.

If you have this problem: 1) It is probably not due to any effect of marijuana and 2) It is potentially quite dangerous. See a doctor.

You can find a ton of research on the health effects of marijuana at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer You can read it all and find out what I just told you, or take my word for it. Be advised that most of the people who answer these questions have never read the most basic research and really don't have a clue what they are talking about.

When you quit smoking cigarettes you cough up all of the stuff stuck in your lungs because the scilia (little hairs that move things in your resparatory system) become paralyzed. When you stop smokinh these things start working again. The same shoud go for anything you smoke. your body is just trying to heal itself, which it couldnt do before.

Its probably a good thing...but you should see a doctor and probably a psych too cause i hear pot can cause serious chemical imbalances in the brain...and withdrawl can make you depressed or psychotic

You need to go to the doctor. Don't worry, they usually don't call the cops for a little pot. But this is not normal. You could have anything from the beginning stages of cancer to tuberculosis to a cyst to pulmonary infection to anthrax. I am being extreme but it is a serious question that you asked. It is also possible that your lungs are just healing themselves but I don't think so.
The only way to know is to see your doctor.

I would have it checked out by a dr to be on the safe side. When you stop smoking cigarettes, pot, ??, your lungs go through a healing process (the cilia) and it could be that.

you should be worried about lung cancer and other problems but since you'[ve just quit smoking pot then your lungs are used to it and want more but this doesnt mean that you should give it to them you just need to take it easy and stay away from that it could ruin your lungs and your life

You should be fine. If it's only been 3 weeks, guess what's happening? Your lungs are getting healthy! You're coughing to get them working again. If it continues, see your doctor. But the cough is fairly common for any kind of smoker who's quit.

You have every reson to worry about lung cancer and other ailments from smoking dope for that long. Everything in moderation and if you smoke pot everyday for that long you're just a pothead.

See a doctor ! All type of smoking is bad smoking. You may have a lung infection or viral disease . It's probably contagious so cover up when you cough.
