Mike's answer is the best. I was going to tell you the same thing, but read the answers already there.
Disregard the ill-informed idiots who say you shouldn't be a vegetarian. Wasn't your question anyway....

It sounds like you're going to restaurants where the food is premade. That's not particularly healthy even without meat because you don't know how long the food has been sitting there.
It's pretty hard to suggest restaurants when you don't mention where you are, but any restaurant that makes food to order can either whip up something vegetarian for you or just make one of their usual dishes and leave out the meat and eggs.
I would suggest for starters Indian restaurants...many parts of India are completely vegetarian so most indian restaurants have a number of vegetarian dishes. If you don't like food that's really spicy, just tell them and they'll leave the spice out.
Any Chinese restaurant will make anything on their menu without meat if you ask and they usually have plenty of vegetarian dishes on their menus already.
Most Japanese restaurants have vegetarian sushi these days and there's always vegetable tempura. I've even seen vegetable sukiyaki.
Italian restaurants have great pasta dishes that only have vegetables in them.
Even Subway has a vegetarian burger to put in sandwiches...personally I don't care for it so I just order a sandwich with all the vegetables and get one of the sauces they use on their speciality sandwiches. It's usually cheap and very very good.
Interesting that I could figure all this stuff out and I'm not even a vegetarian.

Well as for fast food many places have veg options. Burger King and Taco Bell are always good, and the meats are vegetarian....aka no lard. Wendy's has salads and baked potatoes. And most places have veg options. And you can always order a salad and ask that they take out the meat, cheese, and eggs. You can also get regular items like pasta, or mexican food. Just make sure that it isnt made with meat...some mexican foods have a meat based sauce.
Good luck and I hope that this helps.

There are many vegetarian alternatives. Ask them to make a dish without meat. Or even ask if the chef can make an item for you. Many restaurants are open-minded. Many cities have vegetarian restuarants or pick a cuisine that has vegetarian foods... chinese, thai, indian, etc. If you are even in Ithaca, NY (not sure where you live) go to The Moosewood Restuarant

LOL! If you want to be a picky eater, you're going to have to start acting like one! My waiters usually hate me at first, but I tip good to make up for it...
Fast food:
McDonald's: Fruit and yogurt parfait, fruit and walnut salad, side salad, or bagels, muffins or biscuits if you get there for breakfast.
Burger King: easy- they have a morningstar farms veggie burger at most locations now.
Taco Bell: also easy, just sub beans for any meats to keep that protein.
Sonic: Grilled cheese kid's meal.
Subway, goodcents, quizno's, etc: all offer a veggie sub. cheese optional- you didn't say whether or not you were vegan.
Any "home-style cooking" diner place: baked potato loaded with veggies, salads, or any combination of side orders (most have green beans or baked beans or something... just ask about the meat first)
Italian: pasta and marinara... it's the cheapest, too!
Mexican: most have a vegetarian option on the menu- my fave restaurant has veggie fajitas. Broccoli, tomatoes, cauliflower, zuccini, onions and peppers! MMMmmm
Even seafood places are do-able if you try... Red Lobster and Olive Garden have a soup-salad-bread thing a lot. Fill up on salads, but look for a veggie, tomato, minestrone, or other meatless soup option.
Your best best is to look up the numbers to your favorite restaurants and stick them on your fridge. If you plan on going out, see who has the best veggie soup or special option... Good luck! â¥

Some restaurants, like Islands, will charge a little extra for a meatless patty instead of a regular one. If they don't have that, then I just ask for the burger without the meat.

What city are you in? Some book stores will have books on vegetarian places to eat or you can go to OpenTable.com and pick your city and choose the vegetarian option. It'll give you a list.

Try buffet style places such as "Fresh Choice" or "Sweet Tomato" etc..... Middle Eastern foods also can be vege friendly. The only flesh I consume is non-fried chicken (although I'm a vaginaterian :) ahem,.. deep fried and greasy chicken can be fowl so to speak.
