I don't think theyd have naturally have a preference of bananas over any other edible fruit they could find. Monkeys and apes might be associated with bananas because they're found in tropical areas and can be opened easily by creatures with opposable thumbs.

However I wouldnt be surprised if monkeys and apes didnt bother peeling them and just chomped away, skin and all.

monkeys eat bananas because its a staple from where they come from which is a sub tropical continent. Even in capativity they will eat them because they must taste nice and nutritionally good for them.

assuming you mean monkeys....

...they eat many fruit and in their wild habitat (for some species)bananas are one of those available.
