To steam it, get a steamer basket (even Safeway sells them). Place the basket in a pot with a little water below and the broccoli above in the basket. Heat it up and the steam from the boiling water will cook the broccoli. I turn it off as soon as it turns a brighter green, but you can choose your own texture - almost crunchy raw to outright mushy.
You can also steam it in the microwave by heating it with a little bit of water. Cover the container with plastic wrap and fold back a corner to vent the steam during cooking. I suggest microwaving it at intervals of 1-2 minutes, checking and turning it each time. It can cook unevenly and some parts can come out dry and unappealing.
Experiment and enjoy because broccoli can be eaten uncooked as well.

Clean/rinse broccoli. Take a pot with a lid and coat the bottom of it with water, about a centimeter or two from the bottom. If you'd like, add salt and then bring to a boil. Once the water starts to bubble and steam a little, throw in the broccoli (not too much) and cover with lid. Reduce heat to low/medium low and cook/simmer until broccoli is tender to your liking. Drain. You can melt cheese on top after wards if you fancy. BTW, you don't have to continuously check on the broccoli while it's cooking.

After washing & trimming, I put a small amount of water into my pan or pot - maybe in inch or so. Not to boil it, but enough water to get a lot of steam (and you don't have to wash the pot AND a steamer basket afterward).
I put a 1/2 cube of chicken bullion in the water for flaver (or a whole cube if it's a big pot). Turn it around with a spoon once or twice while it's cooking - it'll be bright green and tender enough within minutes. The broccoli tastes great without adding any butter or fat.

If you cannot steam broccoli, boil water with some salt in it (not too much) and dip in the broccoli, boil it for three to four minutes, then remove it and put it in a strainer for the water to drip off.

cut flowerettes off of stalk
chop into bite sized pieces
place in steamer
(make sure steamer has enough water in it so it won't dry up while you're cooking it)
if you don't have a steamer
just add a small amount of water into a frying pan
(watch while cooking though to make sure water doesn't dry up)
and cook for however long it takes to soften
to test, pierce with your fork
if it goes through no prob, it's done!
(at a medium heat, it should take about 10-15 minutes, depending upon how large you chopped the flowerettes)
Dump on your plate,
add a little butter and a touch of salt
Enjoy!

The easiest way is to steam it in the microwave--just place it in a bowl with a small amount of water. Cover with plastic wrap (vent it so some steam can escape) and nuke for a couple of minutes, until the broccoli is bright green and fork-tender.

go to the grocercy store or a kitchen supply store and get a vege steamer, they look like little metal colanders. you just put about one half inch of water into a small pot, put the steamer in and then the veges, and cook for a minute of two until you get desired softness. very easy!!!!!
