Hemoptysis is the medical term for coughing up blood from the respiratory tract. Coughing up blood is not the same as bleeding from the mouth, throat, or gastrointestinal tract. Blood that comes up with a cough often looks bubbly because it is mixed with air and mucus. It is usually bright red.
Hemothorax is a collection of blood in the space between the chest wall and the lung (the pleural cavity). The most common cause of hemothorax is chest trauma. Hemothorax can also occur in patients with lung or pleural cancer, or in patients with a defect of the blood clotting mechanism. The condition is also commonly linked with thoracic or heart surgery, and can also occur in patients who suffer pulmonary infarction (death of lung tissue).
Please see the web pages for more details on Hemoptysis and Hemothorax.

When you cough blood and it comes up like that - it's called "haemoptysis"
(or hemoptysis if you are in the USA).
If you have blood accumulating between the lung and the chest wall, this is called a "haemothorax" (or hemothorax)

Hemoptysis (US English) or haemoptysis (International English) is the expectoration (coughing up) of blood or of blood-stained sputum from the bronchi, larynx, trachea, or lungs (e.g. in tuberculosis or other respiratory infections).
