Crab is delicious. Some of the answers suggested a problem with mercury, so I looked. Crab (all types) are in the safest category, meaning that a woman of childbearing age should have no more than three meals a week of it. Same for mussels, oysters and so forth, the only exception being lobster. The difference is how long the animal lives and what it eats. Large predators (shark, swordfish, albacore tuna) are the ones with high mercury. "Light" tuna is a smaller fish with much less mercury. Even king crab is in the safest group. Shrimp have no detectable levels of mercury.

It apparently is really good broiled. Since reading different recipes I am going to go out and get some crabs to broil. It sounds really good to try something different with the family.

If you live on the West Coast of the USA, you don't eat crab in any month that does not have an R in it: e.g.: May, June, July, or August. Those are the months the red tides may occur, and you will get mighty sick if you eat shellfish that have the red tide toxins.

It is if you eat too much! Mercury, iodine and lead can build up in your body!! If you do eat a lot of crab, on your next doctors appt you can discuss with him/her or request a blood test to get a confirmed levels in your body/blood... Good Luck!!

There is nothing edible that is bad to eat unless you have a tendency to be allergic to some foods. If you see allergic signs when you eat crabs than don't eat crabs.

Crabs are bottomfeeders, so their meat contains high levels of lead and mercury. Try not to overindulge.
