caused by? no...but it can be irretated by weight..the heavy weight on ones chest when someone is lying down especially irritated asthma - but actually having asthma isn't a weight issue..

I don't think directly.

Yet it CAN be caused by many of the things that cause a person to become obese such as lack of exercise and over-intake of unhealthy food substances such as saturated or trans fats and over abundance of sugars (even, say, in COMMERCIAL/GROCERY STORE baby foods/formulas, which often aren't as healthy as they should be).
The movie "Supersize Me" is huge proof that just eating too much fast food, even before someone becomes technically overweight, can cause things like chest tightness and breathing problems.
Some tips for making baby for are here
1. http://extension.missouri.edu/extensioninfonet/article.asp?id=2407

You can take just about anything you want, just make sure to blend it (with a powerful blender) so it isn't solid and stay away from using juices (very popular in traditional baby foods but high in sugar) and wheat/bread products.
A mix of low-sugar baby formula or breast (but not cow) milk, fruits, ground sunflower kernels, and a bit of blended vegetables, for example, is ideal it contains virtually every nutrient your baby will need.

Also make sure your baby crawl and moves around a lot (getting athletic "gym types" toys) here would help a lot. I had asthma as a kid up till age 15 when I joined the track and cross country team at my school...and a year later (about 2 seasons worth) I no longer had asthma. I can only imagine it would have a similar, if not more drastic, effect on a developing child.

Hope this helps.... :-)
