Antibiotics will not treat a cold, as colds are viral. Antibiotics treat bacterial infections. Overuse of antibiotics leads to emergence of resistant organisms.

Follow your doctor's advice. If he develops a fever, call the doc back. Otherwise, treat the cold symptoms with over-the-counter meds.

I would say that the onset of a cold would not be an indication for antibiotics since it is viral, but in CF, the secondary infections are sure to follow.

If you are not going to a CF center, I advise you to check this out. There are some doctors out there who feel that they can treat just about anything just as well as any specialty care center, but I can tell you that this is simply not the case with CF.

Go to http://www.cff.org if you need to locate a CF Center near you.

My boss has a son with CF. From what I understand, antibiotocs are needed quite a bit for CF patients (and strong ones, at that). However, since it is cold, antibiotics do not treat colds. I would image your child is also on a lot of respiratory treatments at all times (like albuterol nebulizers). If you are concerned, seek a second opinion. CF is certainly not anything to mess around with. Best wishes!

unless he is running a high fever and has yellow colored mucus they will not give it to him, most doctors now try to avoid antibotics because too many antibotics will make the child immune to a medicine and if the child needs meds later, it won't be as effective. my 8 yr old is very sick right now with bronchittis too, don't worry, yeah right, all good mom's worry
