Lately my heart pounds rapidly, more than 5 times a day; it is the kind of feeling like when you’re excited or surprised or scared. Could this be a mild heart attack? Should I consult a doctor for this?

This has been happening for more than 2 weeks ever since I met and chatted with a male colleague, who came to my office for some training (we are located at different offices and never spoken to each other before). I know some of you might think that it’s an attraction or perhaps infatuation, but I believe I don’t feel any of those. However, he keeps visiting my head since that day I spoke to him, and then I felt my heart beat racing.

Any advice, possibly from a doctor? Please assure me that it’s not that I’ve fallen for him or something cos I really don’t think that’s what I feel. I don’t really know him and we’ve met only a couple of times since I started working here a year ago (he’s been here for some 5-6 years, I heard).

Thank you for your kind advice.

Well, those symptoms (palpitations) are not typical for a heart attack, unless you have some symptoms other than the palpitations (which is the medical term for the ability to feel your heart beating), such a dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, vomiting, or the feeling that you're going to pass out or they're really disrupting your life, I don't think you need to see a doctor about them just yet.
If they really are situational and only happen when you interact with or think about this guy, then you should strongly consider the idea that it's in some way related to your emotional reaction to him, whatever it may be.

Is there something in your instincts that may be telling you this guy is off? Something about him that makes you uncomfortable? Otherwise if not, I'd really say you probably find him attractive. You don't have to 'like' him, per say, but the human body is full of surprises when you see someone hot!

Hope he is not putting something into your drink? Is he bringing you something from the water fountain?
