It is an addiction.....your mind keeps telling your body you need it, or vise versa, that's why it's so hard. You keep craving the nicotine. When I quit, I did it cold turkey, about 3 times. This time (the fourth) it's been almost 2 years and I will not go back because I can't go through the misery of quiting again. It sucks, it almost hurts. I pretty much replaced my nicotine addiction with caffeine during the day and alcohol during the night. I feel like crap and sometimes wonder if I should drop those two for the cigarettes....But I was soooo tired, and I got winded fixing my bed, IT consumed and controlled every decision I made. Where or when I'd do things....It was pathetic...I was a slave to my cigarettes. I still watch my sister do it. It's more clear to me now watching from the outside in. It becomes a waste of a life..If you are a spiritual person, pray for strength and a release from the hold it's got over your body and mind....and keep telling yourself how nasty it is, and how your getting it out of your life for ever....then when you are ready, might take a while, let it go.......Good Luck!

Good on you for wanting to do this. Your body will thank you for it. It is not really a disease - but an addiction. Like all addictions, it is hard to quit. I dont really know why an addiction is so hard to stop - but acknowledging you have a problem is always the first step.

I would suggest calling a helpline to get help on how to quit, or ask your GP for some advice.

you cant control it because the nicotine in the cigarettes is making you mentally and physically want the cigarette. mentally is in ur head..meaning you feel like you NEED it or u'll die. physically is when u get the symptoms like shaking, sweating, etc. because your body is not used to functioning with out the nicotine.
